4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Oakes (10184) - Gibsons, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 30, 2006
Burnished dark brown colour. Rich aroma - earthy, toasty, molasses, halva, nuts...and not the cheap version of any of these but the best stuff around. The flavour carries all of these same elements in the same quality, plus a little woodiness. Rich and complex with bright, defined flavours at the apex of their respective spectra, this is a hakapik to my previous concepts of how good a scotch ale can be.
