Pours a dark copper with a nice lace. Super complex nose with notes of tar, camping smoke and a slight fruitiness. Full body, a little grainy, nice and peaty, iodine, almost fishy with a lingering smoky finish and a bit of salt in there too. Unique barley wine for those who likes to dring their herrings!

Bouteille de 341 ml. Bière cuivrée surmontée d’une fine mousse effervescente qui s’estompe rapidement. Au nez, elle dévoile des arômes de fumée ainsi qu’un profil malté et sucré avec des notes légèrement fruitées et herbacées. En bouche, la richesse du malt marque la première étape de cette dégustation, suivie par une dense fumée qui pave la voie aux houblons herbeux et au retour du malt sucré et rôti. La finale amère est un chaleureux amalgame de houblon, de malt rôti et de fumée, le tout voguant sur un mince ruisseau de nectar sucré.

Pours a dirty orange brown; light head. Ridiculously tantalizing aroma. Sea salt, peat, a little bit of the "British dirtiness" that I associate with some barley wines. The aroma has a lot of similarities with DFH’s Immort Ale actually. Flavor - quite salty, sea salt, light sweetness, medium bitterness (a bit too much). It’s easy for this type of flavor profile to come off as too sweet; this doesn’t seem to suffer from that mistake though. A very interesting beer, pretty good on the whole, and again unmistakeably À l’Abri de la Tempête. As of now, one of my favorite North American breweries.

Clear blond coloured beer with small whiteh head and almost no carbonation. Smokey aroma. Full bit creamy palate. Finish is somkey bitter ending dry.

Bottled, thanks Timo A and hanniku! Copper color. Sweet berryish, caramelly and smoky aroma with tartness. Sweet berryish, caramelly, toffeish and smoky flavor. Chewy mouthfeel. Toffeish and smoky finish. Barley wine with smoke, I find these elements detracting.

Saveur: Goût de caramel sucré et de fumée avec une pointe chocolatée. Longue durée de l’arrière goût. Palette: Le corps est moyen avec une texture légèrement huileuse. Faible effervescence en bouche. bouteille brune 6,49$, couleur caramel, peu de mousse beige. nez particulier de fumée. La bouche est crémeuse, fumée à souhait, une touche sucrée. L’alcool ne se fait pas trop sentir.

A more than honest light beige head settles atop the clearish orange amber body. Immediately smokey, almost pungent nose deploys its earthy and fruity ramifications into the nostrils. The strong brown sugar sweetness is quite balanced from the mineral, soily, leafy flavour profile. All throughout, candied apricot/peach/apple juiciness remains behind the smoke, never daring to overtake any other flavours. Feeling surprisingly green, a trait I rarely find in toasted malt oriented beverages. Barley sugar notes are rampant in the long finish. Minimal bitterness, leaving even more malt nuances to conclude the finish as a slight hint of chocolatey roast kicks in, dominating the alcohol which remains soft all along. For a beer of this magnitude, it is surprisingly mature: none of its parts steal the show, yet it still feels very young.
