COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Bottle - 341ml. Pours a slightly hazy amber body with a fair off-white foamy/creamy head. Very enjoyable malty/hoppy aroma with brown sugar, fruity, and oaky hints. Alcohol is very well hidden. Texture is soft and taste is well balanced. It carries woody, fruity, and subtle smokey notes. Good, warming bittersweet finish. Another very good one from "les Îles".

Medium, fine yellowish head over clear foxy-amber beer. Alcohol & very lightly phenolic-smoked; bit of caramel underneath. Phenolic, smoked, leathery taste, gradually building up. Important amount of restsugars, caramel. Retronasal flavours of sweetish young vegetables. No herring. Much more carbonated MF than the visual suggests; slick, not overly full-bodied. Nicely smoked; less aggressive than the Bamberg ones, but more carbolic/phenolic. Grand merci à Sylvain pour cette bière rare!

Bottle ( 341ml ). Shared with blankboy and garthicus, via trade with JulienHuxley. Clear bright pale amber-gold, smallish frothy/creamy beige head. Smell - damn, that Quebec yeast - dry, sharp, sour - masks the booziness a bit; sweet and floral in behind that - ehhh. Taste - again, boozy, somewhat sour, spicy and harsh .... watery, slick, decently carbonated, but it leaves a weird pungent, sweaty aftertaste - frankly only the old version of the corne de brume is worth the bother from these guys.

Thanks to HogTownHarry for sharing this with Blankboy and I. Appearance: Light brown with a lasting white head. Aroma: ’Quebec’ - yes, smells like a LOT of beers from there.... you guys know what I mean..... Roasty, pepper, slight smoke, kind of like very slightly smoked bacon. Flavour: Wait... this is supposed to be a barley wine? Odd tangy alcohol-ness, smoke, like I’ve eaten a fist full of burned grain, alcohol is very evident, long smoky finish, very warming. Quite an odd brew. I can’t rate this as a barley wine.

Pours a dark copper with a nice lace. Super complex nose with notes of tar, camping smoke and a slight fruitiness. Full body, a little grainy, nice and peaty, iodine, almost fishy with a lingering smoky finish and a bit of salt in there too. Unique barley wine for those who likes to dring their herrings!

Pours a dirty orange brown; light head. Ridiculously tantalizing aroma. Sea salt, peat, a little bit of the "British dirtiness" that I associate with some barley wines. The aroma has a lot of similarities with DFH’s Immort Ale actually. Flavor - quite salty, sea salt, light sweetness, medium bitterness (a bit too much). It’s easy for this type of flavor profile to come off as too sweet; this doesn’t seem to suffer from that mistake though. A very interesting beer, pretty good on the whole, and again unmistakeably À l’Abri de la Tempête. As of now, one of my favorite North American breweries.

Clear blond coloured beer with small whiteh head and almost no carbonation. Smokey aroma. Full bit creamy palate. Finish is somkey bitter ending dry.
