COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspiré de ce rocher en perdition au large des Îles, Corps Mort est un vin d’orge salin et robuste. Brassé à partir de grains fumés, ayant frayé avec le hareng du «Fumoir d’Antan», il offre une alliance de saveurs riches et sauvages ayant un fort potentiel de vieillissement.

Metalchopz (2129) - Cantley, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 26, 2011
First of two barleywines rated tonight. This one is double the price of the other though (Simple Malt Vin d’Orge). Notched bottom label indicating it was bottled on September 2009. Pours a beautiful clear and bright amber-orange with big bubble carbonation. The frothy off-white head is decent size, but goes down quicker than average, leaving some patchy lacing. Aromas of fruits (dark mostly with some oranges), sweet malt, brown sugar, toffee and smoke. Yes, they say this beer might contain "smoked herring". The carbonation balances itself out after a while. Soft textured and smooth mouthfeel. Just like the nose, the taste is pretty complex as well, but well-balanced, finding the same things. Grainy, fruity, with no alcohol burn, but burnt wood in the aftertaste. Kind of a nice mix between a rauchbier and a barleywine.

RBSB 2010 Grand Tasting. Softly smokey aroma. Earthy/dryish malts backed by sweet smoke and a kiss of peat as well. Rich with a very faint fruitiness. A little bit of dark malt contributes to a touch of cocoa and more sweetness. Rich and fairly savoury. A kiss of salt and leather. Damn nice stuff.

Bottle shared by Rastacouere @RBSG. Pours a slightly hazy orange amber color with a medium sized beige head. The aroma is decidedly smokey with additional notes of juicy fruits, earthy bitterness and grass. The flavor has more smoke, malty sweetness, char, apricot fruitiness and green grass. The finish had mild bitterness and was slightly salty. This was interesting and hard to settle on, but I am grateful for the opportunity to try this.

Jon’s bottle. Sea salt water usd for this Orange body, white head, some lace. Brewed October 2009. Some carmel taste, a tad boozy, OK beer.

Pours a rich amber orange colour, hazy with a small beige head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is of caramel, vanilla, light hop scents, sugar, fruit, and a bit of alcohol. Taste is mostly sweet with some acute bitterness towards the end of the sip. Full bodied, soft carbonation, syrup like on the palate. Overall an excellent beer, not the best barley wine but quite good.

Bottle: Thanks JoeMcPhee! Deep hazy amber pour with a wispy tan head. Rich aroma of maltose (deep caramel, toffeeish notes), and apparent smoky/peaty notes. There’s also a soft hint of vanilla without being overly sugary. Rich palate- silky with a firm malt denseness. Dark toasted caramel, some rich smokiness and earthy notes. Rich and complex. A fantastic Barley Wine for smoked beer lovers!

(Brassin tirant un 9% d’alcool, embouteillé en octobre 2009) Le liquide a une robe orangée. La mousse est inexistante. Le nez est intriguant avec des céréales maltées dont le souffle fort de caramel chaud et de fruits séchés et enrobés de sucre rencontrent des grains enfumés de copeaux de bois et vaporeux de cet air salin et poissonneux qu’on retrouve près des ports de pêche. Le goût est tout aussi singulier et permet à un alcool en catimini de transporter des saveurs boucanées qui dominent légèrement des saveurs douces d’un malt riche et gras. En bouche, le liquide a une stature imposante avec sa faible effervescence et sa texture onctueuse. La finale est un rappel des brises parfumées des îles avec un léger parfum d’alcool qui, comme le Suroît, apporte chaleur et beau temps. Audacieux.

341 ml bottle bought at Peluso (Montreal), 11% version , on November 28, 2010. Clear copper, no head. Slightly smoky aroma of barley, a bit fishy. Dry barley malte taste, a little smokey, there is this smoked herring aftertaste. Not bad but weird!

No aroma to speak of. Nice amber body, little head. Flavour is sweet malts and barley. Sweet finish. Nice as a barley wine, but lacking character.

341ml bottle, bottled in 2008, first batch, dark copper color, with a frothy beige head, but falls quickly, and leaving some laces, nice sweet toasted, caramelized, biscuity malt, mild smoked fishy, faint salted hering and spiced chips nose with a faint fruitcake, toffeeish accent and some candied dried raisin, date, fig notes, and a soft meaty smoked bacon aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a good toasted, caramelized, biscuity malt, leathery fishy smoked fish hering, and chip character with some fruity raisiny, datey, fruitcake undertones and some toffee, burnt brown sugar notes, leading towards a warming sweet toasted, caramel malt, fruity dried raisin, fig and mild lingering smoked hering finish. I’m glad that the fishy smoke was there again in the 2008 batch!
