3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Rastacouere (5918) - Montréal, - SEP 15, 2009
A more than honest light beige head settles atop the clearish orange amber body. Immediately smokey, almost pungent nose deploys its earthy and fruity ramifications into the nostrils. The strong brown sugar sweetness is quite balanced from the mineral, soily, leafy flavour profile. All throughout, candied apricot/peach/apple juiciness remains behind the smoke, never daring to overtake any other flavours. Feeling surprisingly green, a trait I rarely find in toasted malt oriented beverages. Barley sugar notes are rampant in the long finish. Minimal bitterness, leaving even more malt nuances to conclude the finish as a slight hint of chocolatey roast kicks in, dominating the alcohol which remains soft all along. For a beer of this magnitude, it is surprisingly mature: none of its parts steal the show, yet it still feels very young.

Courtesy of MartinT, bottled 2010, 11% ABV Hazy orange-amber color, small creamy head. Mild aroma, light smoke character, malt, also light sourness. It has a slim body, malt flavor, quite high alcohol perception, high salty and marine presence, and some astringent character in the end. Interesting.

Winter warmer 2012.
