The best barley of all grows on the Magdalen Islands. We harvest the windblown, salt-kissed grains and use them to concoct a malt with a maritime accent that gives our beers their unique character. Come to our microbrewery À l'Abri de la Tempête, relax by the sea shore and dip your lips in a brew as fine as spindrift.

UPDATED: AUG 26, 2005 Bottle - shared with blankboy, GregClow, jerc at tupalev’s domicile - provided by jerc. Poured a clear, slightly amber gold with a large frothy head and fair lacing. Aroma was damp grain, sour corn mash, cardboard and a bit of sweet banana for weirdness. Not much flavour at all - some weak-donkey malt, wet grains, with dead funereal flowers providing the hops, such as they were. Weak and flat mouthfeel, no aftertaste. Pretty much a big ol’ glass of nothing. 9/20 because I can’t think of anything nasty about it.

Bottle from Joanette, after RBSG. Pale golden yellow, small white head. Cidery vegetal aroma. Mild bitterness, distant floral hops. Thin, watery, poor. Bah. Looks like they may have some quality control issues based on the variability of the ratings.

341 ml bottle purchased at Metro Joanette in May. Light gold-amber clear body with smallish quick-decaying head...grainy-sweet nose exhibits touches of rosemary and rustic honey, some sharp dry hoppiness...body a bit bready, nice light pale malts working with the moderate hoppiness, fairly sweet towards the back, mellow finish. Quite pleasant.

On tap at Mondial de la Bière 2005(Montréal). Limpid blond body topped with a decent white foamy head. Well balanced malty/hoppy aroma with light bready, flowery and herbal hints. Taste lacks some strenght and complexity, but it leaves a fairly long and bitter aftertaste. Globally, this is a good everyday lager.

(Bottle) Large foamy, white head with a golden body. Nose is very tinny and bodiless. Thin, metallic and lactic flavours. Not a very good lager, IMO... Purchased at Le Goblet in Vaudreuil, QC.

Deep golden beer; small whitish head. Slightly smoked (pale) malts nose, bit grassy and drains water. Malt, malt cookies and grain. Warming up, a peanuts taste arrives. Rather sweet overall. A bit watery. The isles have much wind and good barley, but a lot of rain too, it seems. It’s not the most exclusive beer in the world, no doubt - but surely one of the most elusive. not any longer to me - thanks to a great Lubière!

Light golden-amber color, shy foamy head, hoppy, pale malt aromas follow through on a mdium-bodied palate with hoppy accent, clean pale malt and a tangy salty note coming from the sea-air of the gulf of st-lawrence, with bittering hops on the finish

2005 bottle. Clear, orange-copper-maize like color. One-finger white head rapidly dissipates to cover. Smells of lightly sour lager yeast and rich flavorful barley. Notes of corn and hints of oranges and earth. Flavor is, just ok. I have to say I was expecting more based on the aroma. Great malt, not too dry or too sweet, but gets a little cerealish/acidified on the end. Modest mouthfeel, not over-carbonated, no wateriness. Finishes with biscuits, dry dough/English muffins with a faint whiff of marmalade in the background.

Lightly fruity, grainy malt aroma with some herbal hop notes is fresh and appealing. Golden blonde body with excellent clarity is topped by a generous and lasting, dense, fine-bubbled, white head that leaves some patchy lacing. Cereal-like, grainy malt flavour offers up some lightly fruity notes and an soft herbal hop flavour with gentle finishing bitterness. Light body is refreshing with moderate carbonation and crisp texture. While it’s no Corne de Brume, it’s well done for what it is. Lager glass, fridge temp. Bottle (Metro Joanette, Apr. 2005).
