Bottle: Poured a dark black color ale with a medium size dark gray foamy head with average retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of light roasted malt with some medium citrus and earthy hops is quite nice. Taste is a solid mix between some medium roasted malt with a nice dose of earthy and citrus hops with some light green hops notes also discernable. Body is light with medium carbonation. Not the most intense example of the style but I really like that there was quite a lot of flavour for a minimal amount of alcohol.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 cfrancis (1774) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 28, 2013
Pours dark black with a medium beige head. Aroma is lightly toasted malts and slight citrus hops. Taste is toasted malts with a small citrus hop bitterness and flavours. Not bad but everything is subdued.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 MartinT (6934) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 24, 2013
My Bottom Line:
This light-bodied, bubbly Black IPA projects raisins and berries onto a pleasant blend of roasted malts and wooden hop resins.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the darkness.
-Hops also contribute citrusy fruitiness.
-The aroma and finish are very nice, but the middle is strangely vacuous. Dry, mineral, watery. Thankfully, malt and hops come through in the end.
-This is rather quenching, which is rare for the style.
Bottle.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 dandeman (217) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 15, 2013
Aroma: Citrus, with grapefruit and lemon and also a little smoke and wood sub notes with a bit of pepper. Power of nose is between light and average.
Appearance: Opaque and pitch black with an extremely thick, creamy and long lasting head. Lacing is OK.
Taste: Attack is soft and watery with same citrus notes (grapefruit and lemon) accompanied by smoke and wood notes but very discreet. Finish is very dry. Flavors have a hard time expressing themselves. I would have liked to taste more hoppy flavors. Malt flavors are also too soft. Texture is very watery and body is light. To me, this beer shouldn’t be classified as a black IPA but under dark ale like the brewer said. There are some better products from this brewery.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 mathieuc (284) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 13, 2013
Pours dark brown with a small head that fails to persist. Aroma is roasty, malty with a lot less hops than one would hope for. Flavors are better with pine notes and again some roasted malts enhancing the perceived bitterness. Mouthfeel is a bit thin. Pretty boring overall.

330ml bottle from Duchesse d’Aiguillon.
Appearance : Black with small foamy head.
Aroma : Coffee with light roasted malt. Piny and resinous hops. Light hint of acidity.
Taste : Coffee and roasted malt with piny and resinous hops. Citrusy notes with light acidity. Finish has lots of coffee with piny hops.
Palate : Medium carbonation with a fairly thin palate. That’s partially understandable considering the low abv.
Overall : Quite drinkable. Finish could use a bit more richness. Malt feels fairly thin and dry which seems to leave a lot of space for the coffee notes. Nicely dry and sharp, not the most complex of the style but an interesting take on the style.

Bouteille 341 m. 4.7%. Couleur brune très foncée, presque noir, mousse beige grossière. Arôme de café, malt torréfié. En bouche, effervescente, café, houblon. Finale un peu amère, pas gustative, longue. Bonne beer.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Viper666 (2706) - Saint-Hubert, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 1, 2013
Bouteille 341ml.
