(Rating #2321)

Amber-orangeish color hue, thick foamy head with good lacing, caramelized malt, sweet note of brown sugar and caramel aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with caramelized malt, brown sugar, and lightly creamy character in a soft betterness finish.

Clean, grainy, cereal malt nose is lightly bready. Clear copper with a low, off-white head that lasts and laces. Mild grainy and bready malts with some light herbal and spicy hops and gentle finishing bitterness. Medium-light body with lively effervescence. A difficult to nail style done very competently - perhaps a touch more munich/vienna malt would bring this to the next level. Sampled at the Mondial de la Bière 2005.

Sample at the Mondial, from bottle (I think). Some fine lace on the sides of the hazy copper-gold liquid-filled glass...caramel and wet tree branches in the herbal, subtle nose...smooth, slightly thin body full of dry herbs, fairly sweet at the front and dry and lightly bitter to finish.

The Lure:
Spicy caramel fruitiness makes a delicately complex aroma. Bready grain is submerged within.

The Festivities:
Fresh toasted barley and salty, spicy hints benefit from a light fruity sweetness. Another well-made, though so easily quaffable brew from these lager lovers.

The simple enjoyment of wind blowing in your face.

on tap at bateau de nuit, qc. clear light coppery-red pour, decent white head and retention. nutty, spicy, cardboard, hint of acidity. decent maltiness although i’m not getting the AL’ADLT distinctive malt character. average carbonation, light body - slightly oily, relatively short but present grassy-citrusy finish. decent amber.

On tap at Vices Versa. Color is red, decent creme/yellowish head. Aroma is halfway between caramel malts and lavander. Taste is actually quite heavy on lavender, and borderline soapy, and not really sweet. Soapiness kicks pretty much only in the finale. Somewhat off-style, but typical of à A l’Abri de la Tempête. Not bad, just doesn’t feels right at all. I’m quite happy to have drank it, but it’s just not very good, and actually a major letdown compared to other brews from this brewer.

Slightly hazy copper color with a low amount of activity. Beige 1 finger head, last around 5 minutes, with a good amount of legs. Aromas of ginger biscuit and caramel. Flavors of bready caramel with burnt sugar, roasted grains, slightly spicy with an herbal feel. Highly sugary with a faint bitterness. Slick medium body with moderate carbonation. Light finish that lingers a little, ending with faint herbal hops and some roasted malt. Overall average in quality with decent flavors that are a little watery and a flat body with ok freshness. Well balanced flavors but missing some personality.
