COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Draft at Churchkey. Bright golden color. Aroma of heather and grass. Taste is bitter, dry, with some spice. Not bad.

A golden amber ale with a thin lacing white head. In aroma, a pleasant vinous malt aroma with fragrant herbal hops, in barley wine territory, with loads of fruity esters. In mouth, a well balanced malt with treacle notes, surrenated hops still giving lingering bitterness. Bottle is more than 6 months old, but holds well.

Bottle recent from Peluso. Pours light cloudy colour and abundant initial foam. Aroma is a little cheesy. Mouthfeel is average, basically no taste. A tad of taste, the most minimal of any sign of hops. I found it hard to drink a mouthfeel. This is not an IPA.

Pale amber pour with a tight white head. The aroma is really interesting. Floral and a little bit spicy. There is a touch of almost mintiness. Peppery with a kiss of interesting yeastiness. It’s not all that hoppy, but it’s unlike anything vie had and it’s quite good. A little bit of soft pine needle-like fruitiness. Really tasty.

UPDATED: JAN 22, 2010 My Bottom Line:
This quenching and cohesive Pale Ale blends citrusy, spicy hops and herbs into biscuity cereals, before a persisting leafy bitterness increases the level of complexity.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam lingers atop the golden-tinged amber.
-The malts also offer a refined dose of caramel.
-The mouthfeel is crisp and the effervescence soft; this beer’s age is not really obvious, save for the subdued hop nose, perhaps.
-There are obviously herbs and/or flowers used in this. I can’t tell which ones though.
-This is another very professional brew from À l’Abri de la Tempête; a fresher bottle must be great.

Bottled in Feb. ’09.

2011-10-30. Crisp dark golden body, small frothy white head. 3+ Odd aroma, curry like first impression, like curry or fenugreek? Gives way to herbaceous hops. 6+ Flavour has similar green herbaceous character, funny fruit character, sort of tea like hops. Mild bitterness. 6+ Average to light body. Not to my tastes. Others quite liked it though. Cask Days 2011, Toronto

Appearance hazed light amber. Foamy white top. Presentable. 3+
Flavor and Palate : medium bodied. Hint of clove, touch of vanilla, soft herbal follow up/ gentle green notes behind. Refreshing.

Clear dark golden pour covered by a smallish white head that I’d have prefered taller though it sticks to the glass. Strawy, almost grainy malts hold a certain husky twist and a certain... is that terroir? tang. Herbal, spicy (savory, pepper, SAGE!), wild flowers aroma grow into tea-like territory, developping a certain astringence that I could imagine one would call chalky, but just seems to fit and dry everything out to me. We’re left with a bready, gently toasty malt base that is really just a medium for the other UFO elements to communicate through. Long leafy (borderline vegetal), slightly lemony finish with sharp mineral leanings. Unique recipe that grew on me with every sip. Rediscovering beer, ain’t that what craft beer is all about? And they did push boundaries sideways rather than upwards which makes it hugely drinkable to boot. Two thumbs up. The conservative bastard that I am would be curious to try a version with a wheaty twist. What a fitting name too!

Draught. At Mondial 2009 - day 1. Clear bright gold pour with an average frothy white head. Sweet and spicy aroma, quite clean and simple. Tastes of grass and mildly of raw cinnamon - again light, sweet and clean, somewhat peppery too. Dry, sticky mouthfeel, a tad light-bodied, with a surprisingly long grassy-bitter linger - an interesting brew, quite earthy and bitter, moreso than I was expecting from the light, sweet aroma.

Bottle at ’Mondial de la Biere 2009’, Montréal, QC. Pours a clear gold with an average size somewhat-lasting frothy off-white head. Mild aroma of light hops, a hint of alcohol and a bit of maple syrup -- meh. Unexciting flavour of light hops and caramel malt. Decent bitter finish. Just O.K.
