red-brown color. not much nose. medium to thick body - but not as malty as other bocks. flavors are subtle - lightly roasted barley, bit of dark fruit, touch of candy-sugar sweetness. only slightly bitter. definitely a bit different than usual for the style - almost like a bock with belgian influences. the whole thing works quite well though - very nice.

Attractive dark brown color, nice spicy aroma. Great malt flavor. Anise and liquorice as well as cara malt sweet/roasty flavors. A gorgeously malty bock.

Bock--1998 11.2 oz. Bottle. 6.50% ABV. (2.5 / 5.0) Deep dark red color. Fruity aroma and body, but not overly so. Lager yeast off flavor present but not prominent. A little fruity for my tastes as fruit overwhelms malt. Sampled 11/21/1998. Bock Beer--2002 11.2 oz. Green Extra Long Neck Bottle. 6.50% ABV. (4.25 / 5.0) Clear rich dark copper bronze color. Lacy medium head. Roasted mild hop front. Smooth rich creamy thin dry sweet toffee cherry doughy biscuit body. Balanced mild hop end. Rich No Spice Juleol. Sampled 5/15/2003.

Ruby colour with white head. Big, sweet aroma. Moderate malty taste with just enough hoppiness for balance. In my limited experience, that is not always the case with this style. Also quite thick on the palate, whic I enjoy.

Smells like someone’s making fudge. Reddish-brown body, chewy, burnt caramel, molasses, semi-sweet chocolate. Finish is slightly bitter and clean. Tasty on this cold and wet Ohio October night.

Feelings for this have wavered over the years. First found it in a deli in Manhattan 20 some odd years ago and thought it was the best. A few years later feelings slid. I enjoy the maltiness and break from my standard fare of mega hopped beers. Very nice.

UPDATED: JAN 9, 2004 Dark brown appearance with a red tint. Aroma is chocolate and caramel quite a nice sniffer. Flavor is sweet with some caramel and chocolate notes. A slight bitterness in the finish. I was nervous buying this one because of the green bottles with dust on them but it turned out to be quite nice. I would make a childish comment on the name of this beer but I will refrain. NICE AASS! Sorry I couldn't resist.

UPDATED: JAN 6, 2003 Re-rate: Haven"t encountered the wateriness noted below in subsequent samples. Major boost in order Beautiful garnet color with very nice dark fruit aroma framed with alcohol. Delicious bock flavors of heavitly carmelized malt. Comes up short, however. Much like ordering an ’Optimator-and-water’. Not bad, but watery palate reminds me that better dunkel bock is available.

A very typical example of the style, only a bit better. Actually, it's a very good example. Pours a brown color with a decent head leaving some lacing. As it warms, it reminds me of a cola that has lost the carbonation. Smells of a toasted malt with a faint hint of hops. Taste is typical. Again, toasted (okay, roasted) malts. Some fruits are present as well. Coffee teases the tongue. Mouthfeel is better than average as it's a bit fuller than usual and it has a nice mineral mouthfeel. Drinkability is pretty good as well. This is one of the best bocks I've had and well worth the search.
