Medium-sized light chocolate head over a slight unclear dark brown body. Dry roasty malt and nuts in the aroma. Scents of dark dried fruits, raw earthy hops and tobacco. Taste disappointingly bland and watered down. Light sourish malty with notes of coffee and mild bittering hops. Thin-bodied. Short light sour finish.

33 cl bottle. Dark red/brown color. Nice beige head. Dark malt, chocolate, a bit licourice, fine hops. Dry finish. Now we´re talkin´....

Biggish light brown head. Deep dark red body, barely translucent. Light roasty licorice aroma with a papery background. Sweetish roasty licorice taste with earthy notes. Mouthfeel is kinda thin, yet clean. Dry, burnt, sooty metallic licorice aftertaste. (Letting this beer warm up makes a major difference in aroma and taste.) Lacking in complexity, feels like a lager. Not that much taste to this one. I think I prefer their dark lagers. (0.33l bottle.)

Gr0ve (1875) - Oslo, NORWAY - MAY 14, 2007
330 ml bottle. Dark brown almost black, but it is not entirely opaque as there is some reddish brown light slipping through. Thick creamy beige head that clings to the glass. Light aroma with a hint of chocolate. Smells like chocolate icecream, but is rather subdued. Clean and very hop flavour. Dry flavours. Some roastedness and a little burnt malts. Overall this is very restrained. Feels very lager-like. A little burnt malts in the finish. Dry, and clearly a stout, but it is very boring one.

Is this a stout? I expected a black ale, not a brown lager. Have Aass brewed an ale, a dark lager or have they just watered down their bock. Drinkable, but boring.

I was pleasantly surprised by this. Not an imperial stout, but a nice, refreshing little one. Fine smell of liquorice and coffee. This stout is on the sweet side, but this has a balance between smoothness and flavour that I enjoyed.
