UPDATED: MAY 13, 2012 Aroma of chocolate, coffee, nuts. A bit to thin and lack of taste. An okey stout, but have had many way better.

Bottle purchased in Tromso. Clear dark red - brown beer. Tidy pale tan head. Light dry palate. A little crisp. Minerals. Mildly roasted malt. Traces of coffee and lacto but the mild roast dominates. Sweeter malt in the dry finish. Respectable.

0,5l can purchased at Eurospar Tromsø. I was curious about this stout from Aass. First of all it is called a "Gourmet" stout (which sounds promising), and secondly you can buy it in the lokal supermarked. Although the name sounds promising, the beer doesn’t really live up to its name. Unlike many other stouts, the head on this one collapses almost immediately, but it does leave some nice lacings on the glass. The body is deep brown, nearly black. It has aromas of roasted malt, licorice, coffee beans, smoke and perhaps some dark chocolate. I can’t say I really care too much for the smoky aroma. Although these are some of the components you’d expect from a good stout (except the smokyness), it still tastes cheap.

For being a regular store-bought beer, this one is actually quite good! I would gladly drink this stout just about anytime! :-) Easy to drink - easy to like. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A predominantly bitter stout, also to the finish. Coffee or dark chocolate both in taste and aroma, but it’s not that well articulated. Dark brown colour and light brown head, leaves fine lacings. (50 cl can)

Can. Dark brown, average and mostly diminishing light brown head. Light to moderate malty and sweetish aroma, some caramel and some coffee, light roasted malt. Body is medium, malty and sweetish flavor, some coffee and light caramel, faint roasted malt. Finish is average, malty and lightly sweetish, some coffee, light caramel and light roasted malt, light hoppyness. Lightly sweetish stout with some coffee - could se more hoppyness.

I must say that I was a bit surprised by some of the decent qualities of this stout. Most certainly exceeded my expectations. It starts out with an inviting black color and a rather large off-white head. The head is rather well retained, with lacing that clings tightly to the side of the glass. All-in-all, the body looks to be pretty robust. The nose is pretty aromatic: largely sweet, but with a strange metallic aroma. The mouth feel is watery enough to betray the quality of its appearance. The taste is decent: a bit malty, coffee perhaps and slightly bitter. All-in-all, this one is decent, despite its watery mouth feel and clear lack of complexity.

Can enjoyed at home
Dark brown, big tanned head. Smells of chocolate, caramel and malts. Taste is full malted, lots of sweetness and caramel. Too sweet maybe. Also chocolate. Some bitter finish

Dark, dark brown, close to black body, with a red tint. A large off-white short-lived fully diminishing head. Little lacing. Nice sweet aroma with plenty of roasted notes: raisins, liquorice and faint coffee. The taste is medium sweet and light bitter. Light to medium bitter roasted aftertaste. Sweet malty flavours, brown sugar. Soft carbonation, thin body and rather watery texture. Not bad!
[50 cl can, from Meny Telemarksporten, Porsgrunn]
