3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 jde123 (723) - Washington, Washington DC, USA - MAR 2, 2004
A friend of mine had a few selections of this beer and generously shared a couple with me. I thought it was an odd combination of a belgian style ale and a bottle of liquified dried fruit (well then it wouldn't be dried fruit anymore would it) maybe reconstituted dried fruit. At any rate, it wasn't too bad, I think it was an old bottle that doesn't age well... poured nicely with a large pink head and a ruby colored body, decent flavor of oak and malts. Hmm, interesting.

Ruby red pour with big pink head. Malty and sweet dried fruit tastes throughout. Could use a bit more hops though.
2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Gromit (479) - Port Orchard, Washington, USA - FEB 28, 2004
Hmm, thought this would be more of a Jubel or Celebration style. This is a Belgian?!?
Pours a dark translucent brown with some head and just a bit of lacing.
Smells, well, skunky, to be honest. Damn if they didn't put this into a green bottle. While I realize that they don't get much sunlight in Norway, the rest of the world does.
Tastes not as skunky, thankfully, but still not great. Think of a fruity Newcastle Brown; yeah, that's it, with a little more mouthfeel and fruity flavors.
Mouthfeels is nothing special for this style. Drinkability is okay, but again nothing special.
Hmph. I was looking forward to this beer, too.

The first taste seemed like a Vienna, but as it warmed, it was sweeter and maltier, like a bock. Had some fruity notes (raisins) and a little nutty.

Green glass bottle Dec. 13th 2003. Slight skunk aroma. Slight caramel aroma. Dark amber beige head. Sweet slight bitter caramel nothing special a beer of slightness not excitement.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Braudog (4473) - Hampton, Virginia, USA - JAN 1, 2004
Dark red with a corn-starch aroma. Skunk of an old import. Sharp bite. A light-bodied beer but apparent of a high alcohol character (although it isn't).
3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Prostman (1077) - Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 14, 2003
This was very good. It poured a medium brown color with an off-white head. The taste was malty with nots of caramel in the flavor. Finish was dry and I would recommend this beer as it is a nice change to so many hoppy holiday beers.
