3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20 Rune (6120) - Tromsø, NORWAY - DEC 10, 2006
Sampled at a testing session of Norwegian Christmas beers in Tromsø last Friday. This is one of the better ones this year. Has got a creamy off-white head over an amber-brown body. Sweet malty aroma. Rich amount of burnt sweet malt in flavour supported by a welcoming touch of fruity tartness. There is also an ale-like component in the background. Well balanced. A classical Norwegian Yuletide beer and absolutly a candidate for the meat at xmas eve (08.12.2006).
2.2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20 OleR (4247) - Oslo, NORWAY - NOV 16, 2006
UPDATED: NOV 17, 2006 Bottle. Clear brown color, good beige head. Strange aroma of (no kidding) old cheese(!) Not very offensive, but unusual. Toasted sweetish malt flavors, low hopbitterness. Sticky palate. Short, medium dry finish. Aass Bryggeri is known to make Christmas seasonals with a high quality level... I didn’t really enjoy this years (cheesy) version so much.

330 ml bottle. Deep dark amber colour. Really small off-white head. Roasted crisp bitter maltiness. Quite dry. Leaves a drying sensation. Surprisingly dry for a Christmas beer. Some hop bitterness in the finish.
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 larsga (5324) - Oslo, NORWAY - NOV 4, 2006
Medium beige head over dep dark red body with carbonation. Light sweet milky caramelly aroma with alcohol and earth notes. Roasty, slightly burnt licorice taste with acidic, bitter background. Dry, roasty aftertaste. Not that much taste, really. Good, but kind of boring. (0.33l bottle.)

If you like bready malts with lots of caramel on top, then grab an Aass. This one poured a translucent brown color with a small head that thinned immediately. The lacing was weak. Aromas of cherries, yeast, bread, and caramel. Caramel was the bulk of the flavor with breadiness, light yeast, and spices underneath. The finish was somewhat thin, acidic, and bitter. An interesting concoction, but not my cup of tea (or beer).
