4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Oysteib (23) - NORWAY - JAN 3, 2012
A wonderful surprise from Aass. Brown color, full body, caramel sweetness with some bitterness and a hint of sour. By far the best Norwegian christmas beer I tasted in 2011, and hopefully a sign that the large breweries are finally taking up the challenge from the micro brewers.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 tfredvik (296) - Oslo, NORWAY - DEC 25, 2011
I’m done with the Norwegian christmas lagers I wanted to rate this year, so here’s my first domestic christmas ale! Gorgeous clear dark brown body with a cola tint, supporting a long-lived, light brown head that laces the glass somewhat. Sweet malty aroma with dark fruits (raisin) as expected, but also quite spicy, some alcohol and a touch of liquorice. The taste is medium sweet, with a light to medium bitterness. Very pleasant flavours: (dried) dark fruits, spices, alcohol, herbs and burnt sugar. Medium to full body, oily texture and soft carbonation. Delicious!
[33 cl bottle, from Vinmonopolet Alna, Oslo]

Deep, clear red mahogany red color with a creamy head. Better than expected but a bit unbalanced with notes of alcohol both in the aroma and taste. Roasted malt, nuts, caramel and spices. Medium carbonation and body.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Palme (1200) - Bergen, NORWAY - NOV 30, 2011
0.33l bottle. A deep brown body with a red hue and a small bubbly and heavy lacing tan head. The aroma is quite elegant and nice. Sweet with dates, raisins, caramel, chocolate and cocoa hints. Rich mouthfeel with a average carbonation level. A bit sharp on the flavors. Quite obvious and sharp alcohol that dominates the other flavors. Also kinda caramel-metallic, but just a hint. Ends with a nutty-bitter finish and aftertaste. All in all a drinkable Christmas brew from Aass, but I will store a bottle for a year. Suspect it will be better then.
