Editor’s note: Changed name from Juleĝl Premium to Vellagret Juleĝl November 2014. The beer formerly known as Juleĝl, 6.5%, is now known as Juleĝl Premium.

Pours deep brown, red hue. Red fruit and alcohol nose. Malt, red fruit, lots of alcohol and some water aroma. Good though. Some carbonation. Sweet. Bitter ending.

2011 vintage bottle enjoyed at home
Pours brown, dark brown in glass, big beige head. Smells of milk chocolate, some roasted malts and dried fruits. Medium sweet, quite dry for an ale, some nuts and raisins, also caramel. Moderate bitter, some malt bitterness. A quite ok beer from Aass, as a Yule seasonal i guess it won’t offense many norwegian beer drinkers, but not shock them either. Quite average

Dark brown body with a shade of red, small disappearing beige head. Dark fruits and burned malt dominates both the aroma and taste, while the taste also brings hints of cinnamon and alcohol. A decent christmas beer from Aass.

Deep reddish colour with a tan head. Rich malty and a fine fruity aroma. Rich malty flavour, but also a fine fruityness and some spices. Probably by far the best of the "old traditional" norwegian christmas beers. A very well hidden alcohol as well. Enjoy.

Bottle from Rune. Dark brown colour, not much head. Looks like cola. Sickly sweet malty aroma. Strong sweet candy malt flavour. Unbalanced. Not my sort of beer.

A wonderful surprise from Aass. Brown color, full body, caramel sweetness with some bitterness and a hint of sour. By far the best Norwegian christmas beer I tasted in 2011, and hopefully a sign that the large breweries are finally taking up the challenge from the micro brewers.

I’m done with the Norwegian christmas lagers I wanted to rate this year, so here’s my first domestic christmas ale! Gorgeous clear dark brown body with a cola tint, supporting a long-lived, light brown head that laces the glass somewhat. Sweet malty aroma with dark fruits (raisin) as expected, but also quite spicy, some alcohol and a touch of liquorice. The taste is medium sweet, with a light to medium bitterness. Very pleasant flavours: (dried) dark fruits, spices, alcohol, herbs and burnt sugar. Medium to full body, oily texture and soft carbonation. Delicious!
[33 cl bottle, from Vinmonopolet Alna, Oslo]

Julen 2011. Pours a dark-dark amber color body with a thin beige head. Aroma of raisins (dried fruit), dates and brown sugar. Sweet taste with a well balanced malty flavour. Quite tasty juleĝl from Aass.
