2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 KnutAlbert (4587) - Oslo, - FEB 11, 2006
A rather bland, standard Norwegian pilsener, saved by some flowery hops and hoppy frehness in the finish.

Clear yellow colour, a film of white head on top of it. There’s a fruity aroma to it, some grains as well. Taste has a nice crispy feel to it, moderately hoppy. As to the debate whether this is Norway’s finest macro lager, to me it probably is, along with Frydenlund Fatøl. (Can)

The golden / yellow fizzy pour led me to believe that this would be terrible However, it had some good hop and citrus presence. A little skunky and thin, but not terrible.

Can at home. Golden straw-colour with a very carbonated head which fades fast. An aroma of grains and straw towards the classic cech pilsener. The flavours are much alike with more sweet grains. Medium bitternes not very lasting. Watery and thin mouthfeel. Overall not a bad light pilsener, and maybe the one of the industrial pilseners in Norway that is closest to the cech pilsener.

Can. Golden, small and fully diminishing head. Light to moderate malty - lightly grainy and lightly sweetish aroma, faint grassy hoppyness. Body is medium, malty - lightly grainy and lightly sweetish, some grassy hoppyness. Finish is short to average, malty - lightly grainy and dryish, some grassy hoppyness. Dryish pils - OK hoppyness in the finnish.

Oh my, now I’m really disappointed. I have been told that this is supposed to be one of the few decent Norwegian macro lagers, but I couldn’t disagree more. The strange thing is that initially I thought the aroma was quite ok. After smelling the beer a few times I realised that I had been tricked by my preconceptions: this really doesn’t smell very nice. Sweet malts and some hops, but also sugary cornflakes and cooked vegetables. Yikes. The taste is better, a sweet taste with a nice medium bitter finish. However, the bitter finish is accompanied by a harsh tin can flavour that more or less ruins this brew. The body is clear, pale and sparkling. Fluffy white head that soon reduces to a thin film that leaves plenty of lacing. Light to medium body, medium carbonation. Nah.
