[at Yeprs tuesday tasting]
Pours redish brown with a staying, frothy, off-white head. Okay lacing. Aroma is nicely spiced with some caramel. Fine, light and rather lively mouthfeel. Sweet caramel, a touch of metal off-flavours with a good, spicy dryness at the end.
jcr (875), Jasper, Indiana, USA Nov 28, 2008 750ml. Weak of body and light in aroma. Hazy brown body. Average-sized, fizzy, light brown head. The aroma has hints of caramel, toast, coriander and citrus. The flavor is moderately swet and light bitter. The finish is dry and lightly bitter and lightly sweet. Light to medium body with a watery texture. Lively carbonation. Just OK.
durhambeer (619), Durham, USA Nov 17, 2008 Bottle shared with JCB and some Carolina folks. Odd metallic and stewed tomato notes... WTF? Mostly reminiscent of rotten tomato juice and malt. Not sure what’s going on here. TURDFERGUSON (1182), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Nov 2, 2008 Bottle shared by JCB, thanks Jason! This one was really weird. Way too sweet overall for me. A bit of brown sugar and a strong vegetal character. Bleh. JCB (1124), Durham, USA Oct 31, 2008 Dark brown pour, fairly weak looking with a thin body whose relative lack of abundance is a bad sign. Sure enough,I found the beer a bit too weak and thin for my taste. Rather than the sweet play of malts, fruits, and mild hops I want in a dubbel, this one’s got the flavor of ripe bananas on the downsid. Average, unspectacular. emacgee (1200), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Oct 31, 2008 Thanks JCB for sharing. Pours a lightly translucent brown with ruby highlights. Has a 1-2 finger creamy tan head. The nose is sweet, raisiny, malty, has light caramel tones, rusty/meaty, tomato? Flavor has some fruity esters, meaty/rusty dubbel feel, tomato, lightly earthy. Sweep and carbonated mouthfeel.
