3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Had low expectations as I picked this up at a discount grocery for $3 (corked 750ml) (the cork was tied down with a metal strap instead of a cage, have never seen that before). Had some sediment but the bubbles seem fake (don’t think it was bottle conditioned). A chocolate syrup and dried stale fig/cherry taste dominate. Exceeded my expectations esp. for the price point, but this isn’t that great. Thin on the palate and pretty ugly in the glass. An odd sourness does almost come through the thin malt.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
750mL bottle purchased at Cost Plus World Market in Davis, CA. Bottle says it is 9% ABV. Minerals in the aroma with some husky grain aromas. A little sweet, but the graininess dominates the nose. Mostly transparent amber body with a small, pretty lifeless light tan head. Lacing is lacking. Highly carbonated, sweet, brown sugary flavors dominate. Some dough in the middle with a bit of a mineral and metallic finish. Pretty watery and lacking body. Pretty damn boring. This is definitely not a Tripel, so the categorization of this beer needs to be adjusted.

750 ML bottle purchased at World Market in Redding, CA. Color: Medium Brown. Aroma / Bouquet: Chocolate, cocoa, toffee. Flavor: Can we say liquid chocolate? Palate: medium to fullness of mouthfeel. What a great beer! It is worth more than the rating that Rate Beerians are giving it. Praise the LORD for the Trappist & Abbey ales!!
