BBB63 (3843), La Porte, Indiana, USA Nov 20, 2007 Corked bottle "Heylissem" and served in NB Worthy glass: Mahogany brown with a fading off-white frothy head but there was some spotty lace left behind. The aroma has notes of fig, prune, blackberry esters along with caramel and toffee, Belgian candy sugar, anise, ginger, and dark breads. Smells a bit like a fruit cake. The taste is happily not as sweet as I feared. While the malt and fruity notes are noticeable there is also a note of sourness and spice with adds to the balance and complexity. Additionally there is an overall earthy quality I really dig. The mouth feel is lively and warming with a slightly dry finish.

This is either a 1) Dubbel on steroids 2) A dark Tripel or 3) a weaker sibling of a Quadrupel. Maybe it should just be listed as an BSA. A really nice beer anyway you look at it.
MrRomero (1913), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Oct 23, 2008 33cl bottle: poured cloudy brownish red with a medium beige head. Mild fruit aroma with caramel notes and yeast. Flavor is pretty dry with some fruit notes and yeast. Slightly metallic with strong carbonation. Decent. Sammy (3242), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 16, 2008 Very smooth and strong brown. Full mouthfeel, white serious head. Not complex but smooth and very drinkable. yespr (7788), Copenhagen O, Denmark Sep 19, 2008 33 cL bottle. Pours dark orange to brown, hazy, with a creamy off-white head. Mild yeast fruity aroma. Light caramel flavour in the first flavour impression, followed by a mild sweetness and then a mellow yeasty fruity and mellow flavour before the finish. Smooth and nice. Light yeasty and caramel sweet finish with a mild spice note in the far finish. Smooth and creamy lasting mouthfeel. stoutlover72 (1342), NorCal, California, USA Sep 9, 2008 Quite an enjoyable beer and suprised to find it listed as an Abbey Tripel, because it screams Abbey Dubbel. Either way, it’s a tasty beverage.

The aroma is figs, plums, dust and a touch of sassafrass. Flavor is strong dark fruits, molasses, dark candi sugar with just a touch of dirty penny. Still confused at how this is listed as a Tripel though. lghansen (24), Denmark Aug 24, 2008 Dark brown with a pale tan head. This was an excellent Belgian dark ale. Just the right mix of sweet, malt, and alcohol flavors. It was very foamy, and bubbled out of the bottle after opening. A great alternative to champagne.
