radiomgb (2227) - Peterborough, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 16, 2006
Bottle from <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/Places/ShowPla target=blank>St. Veronus in Peterborough. Golden-orange in colour, thin dissipating white head, some lace. The aroma was sugary sweet, orange peels, hoppy and yeasty. The flavour was of orange zest, lemons, herbal hops, candy, yeast. Bitter dry mouthfeel, medium/light body, high carbonation. Finishes long, lots of orange citrus, bitter.

UPDATED: JUN 30, 2009 Clear golden body with a medium white head. Aroma of yeast, bread and corn. Taste is very corn-syrup with some apple-like fruitiness. Medium body and long pleasant corn-syrup finish. Like a very very very good Leffe Blond. I usually don’t like corn syrup flavours in my beer but for this one it worked quite well. I seem to remember my Bonne Esperance with more hop character and less corn-syrup taste. The bottle I’m rating is almost a year old, it was my last bottle and I don’t have access to a fresh one in montreal, so take my comments with a grain of salt... and three Belgian Strong Ales. 33cl Bottle.

schuimkroaat (413) - Leuven, BELGIUM - OCT 23, 2005
33 cl bottle, bbe Dec 2006. Dark amber with a haze, quite still, white frothy head, average in size. Little lacing. Very hoppy aroma, a bit fishy with touches of citrus and tea leaves. Round and fresh, fruity (apple) taste with subtle but lasting hops in the background, peardrops, earthy tones and alcoholic afterburn on the palate, which otherwise gives a soapy feeling.

lachesis (756) - St Idesbald, BELGIUM - SEP 30, 2005
Hazy orange-blond beer with ivory colored head. The beer has a lively carbonation that is typical for wallonian beers of this type. This beer has a very fruity and honeyed aroma of apricot, very ripe peaches, sweet buttercakes, cinnamon, white candy sugar dates and figs. There is a faint accents of fresh herbs in the finale of the nose. The taste is soft and smoth. the high carbonation gives the taste some extra freshness that it needs for sure. Otherwise it becomes flat and sticky. The taste is sweet stone fruity, honeyed, sugarcake like, tutti frutti, white sugar, and fain soft spicey. It also has a fine minerality in the afthertaste.

a sim rate: High-pressure quick decision at the Delirium Cafe in Brussels. (anyone who’s been there will understand why quick decisions are NOT to be made with that beer menu). It’s an OK blonde. Nothing special. Hoppy aftertaste. Smells sweet and a bit like a rubberband!

Papsoe (25089) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - JUL 29, 2005
(Bottle 25 cl) Hazy, pale amber colour with an impressive, almost shaving foam-like head which collapses very slowly. Malty, sweet and full-bodied with a slightly perfumy nose. Apparently this beer was developed by the students at the agronomical college in Gembloux! 061101

(Bottle 33 cl) Dirty, dirty beer - the kind that looks like Chinese river water. Lots of floaties, lumpy yeast underneath the frothy head. Really looks awful. Taste is a different matter: fruity and spicy with a pronounced sweetness and some late, light hops. Nice. 160396 and 260197

Bottled (BB 02/2007)
Hazy amber with a big creamy head. Aroma of yeast and banana. Quite thin bodied. Metallic, crisp, a bit sweet. Hides alcohol, but lacks all other flavors too.

Bottled, alc. 7.8% (BB 03/2005)
Hazy orange color, huge creamy white head, lace. Aroma has fruityness and hints of balsamico. Soft mouthfeel, yeasty and hoppy finish with earthy and fruity notes. Quite standard, drinkable but not really unforgettable.
