Une recette secrète jalousement gardée depuis des siècles, une épice mystérieuse... Bière blonde 100% naturelle à l’arôme fruité. C’est le houblonnage à cru lors de la 2e fermentation qui lui confère son arôme si délicat.

Belgian triple style but just as much a ’bière de garde’, I suppose (a genre not easily distinguishable from Belgian ales, at least the top fermented ones). Snowy white, mousse-like, regular head that lasts, colour light blonde with vivid sparkling, lightly veiled after adding the ’fond’. Nose gets a pleasant malty sweetness and yeasty fruitiness, impressions of rye bread, coriander, blood orange, grass, apricot, white pepper; taste citrussy and some apple, sweetish, malty (in a classical honeyish and caramel-like way), a little bit resinous, fairly strong carbonisation, mineral-like, ending in a dry peppery hop bitterness and a bit of warming, wodka-like alcohol.

Bottle. Clear, yellow, small white head. Aroma has apple, yeast and syrup. Taste has apple, dusty cellar, grain and some citrus. Odd mix between a cider and a beer. Alcohol is too present. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

330 ml bottle bought at 759 Store in Sheung Shui Centre.

Looks: Translucent light golden honey colour with no yeast sediments; Two finger head and beautiful crumpety white foam which lasts for 3 minutes; Very good sticky lacing with very fizzy carbonation.

Aroma: Fragrant sweet malt, with strong wheat, sharp tart notes, banana, light pineapple, light vanilla, caramel, light toffee, light sugar, light bread, Bel yeast, light cloves, spices and very light grass.

Taste: Medium sweet malt, with flashes of citrus zest, estery orange, strong alcohol, molasses, light caramel, strong phenolic, bread, strong Bel yeast, spices, lime, liquorices, bitter hops and light grass.

Body: Mid to light. Quite crisp and creamy palate.

Mouth Feel: Well-rounded and pretty fulfilling. There’s strong wheat to thin the body and to give a strong tart nose but not in taste; Pretty decent estery fruit and phenolic spices, and the glucose adjuncts pretty much ended up in potent yet tasty alcoholic taste. How about that!

Hoppiness: Spicy light grass nose. Lime, light spice and grass in taste. Light bitterness has some liquorices taste into it for a decent sweet-bitter finish.

After Taste: Fairly dry. Crisp, boozy and creamy to mouth.

Comments: When I saw this at a discount store like the 759, I thought this gotta be cheap in every sense so no harm in trying. Wow, what a find! It’s less expensive than most crafty Belgian Tripels, but quality and taste-wise it’s as solid as most above-average Tripels from big-name breweries in Europe - Malty, wheaty and creamy, expressive fruity and sweet aroma and taste, nice head strong booze, and pretty nice low hoppy finish - Simple, rock solid and quite elegant, who say you can’t find treasures from bargains? Here it is. Another stockpile for World Cup potato-couching!

Golden blond beer with white foam head, little lacing, fading. Little unpleasant aroma, but taste is fine. Little cardboard I would say. Short aftertaste. (Lille 201404)
