Glouglouburp (6104) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 19, 2008
UPDATED: JAN 7, 2010 In short: A basic floral Belgian blonde ale. Good but nothing special.
How: Bottle 330ml, drank when about 6 months of age
The look: Clear blonde body topped by an initially large white head with medium retention
In long: Averagely fruity for a Belgian Ale with flavours of pineapples, apples (red and green), bananas, some grapefruits. Hops are very much on the floral side of things, almost perfumy. Sensation of floral petal juice along with some dry grass. Light acidity. Very lively carbonation, maybe a bit too much so. White pepper and salty notes, the beer has a strong mineral presence. An overall crisp and fresh sensation upped the score a few points. Very drinkable in its simplicity, almost underrated. The truth is that this beer isn’t far from one of the best Belgian Blonde ale. Silly is only 70 miles away from Westvleteren.

Bottle @ Take One. Hazy golden colour, white head. Very fruity aroma, malty and flowery. Flavour adds some hoppy notes to that, with a slightly bitter finish. Medium to fullbodied. Becomes a bit boring in the end.

Bottle (330ml). Via trade with glouglouburp. Pale clear slightly greenish (?) gold pour with a huge lasting sticky fluffy white head. Very sweet and fruity aroma, very dry spice; green apple tartness and slightly grassy. The taste follows, grassier, not as sweet, some alcohol dryness .... light bodied, dry and astringent, the sweet malt finishes too quickly - easy to drink, but not memorable - good patio beer, thanks to the grassy hoppiness mixed in.

Slightly hazy dark straw. Herbal-lemon balm, coriander leaf nose is slightly hoppy and yeast. Fun. Palate is dynamic but still shows some pepper notes. Lots of perfumey coriander. Not bad balance. Finishes herbal and with a dryness that shows gin, hop and alcohol. Interesting, approachable abbey ale.

Slayer85 (1051) - Firenze, ITALY - JUN 7, 2010
Bottle. A hazy medium yellow beer with a huge, frothy/fizzy, lacing, mostly lasting white head. The aroma is lightly to moderately malty, lightky to moderately hoppy, lightly yeasty, with notes of bread, citric fruits, flowers, a hint of banana and spices. The flavour is moderately sweet, lightly sour, lightly bitter. Medium body, lively carbonation, long finish with medium bitterness. No thrill, but a balanced and well brewed Belgian ale.

Shared a 33cl bottle from Cora (Luxembourg). Pours a slightly hazy yellow colour with a large thick white head. Aroma is spicy, bread and yeasty. Lively carbonation and light to medium body. Flavour is quite bitter with a dry, metallic and astringent end only noticeable on the first sip. Overall, a very nice beer.

Thx! to Kogymo. 33 cl. bottle sampled originating from a Belgian Family Brewers gift pack. Tacky label. Pours a nearly clear light (too light) golden with a creamy, lacing white head. Smells vaguely of coriander, cleaning products & cheap lemonade citrus, faint hops, touch yeast. Taste is similar, vaguely artificial lime peel, cleaning agents + cheap lemonade lemon, touch grassy, touch banana, light hops. Feels a bit thin in the flavour department & the carb. is way too high. Feels a bit bland, effortless & indistinguishable from the bulk for me.
