4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 DonMagi (5598) - bantervile, Bedfordshire, ENGLAND - NOV 2, 2005
Beers of europe. What can i say i love dubbels, and heres another great bad boy to put me to sleep for the nite. Aroma of malty, dark fruits with some cashew nuts in there. Taste is similar with some great flavours kicking about, increadably easy to drink with a long sweetish finish to coat the mouth nicely. Excellent, though could keep its head better.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 hughie (3994) - Bedford, Bedfordshire, ENGLAND - OCT 26, 2005
Dark brown with a fine, frothy beige head. Aroma had yeast and an array of fruits. Taste was very satisfying: fruity sourness and malty sweetness combining well. Could have done with a little more bitterness, but overall yet another wonderful Abbey Dubbel.
2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 mutant (854) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - OCT 11, 2005
Pours with a huge beige head on a very dark body which has a red tinge. Mine had a sour, vinuous aroma and tasted quite sour, unusual in a brunne. Maybe mine was spoiled. Thin but warming

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 sayravai (4654) - Helsinki, FINLAND - AUG 5, 2005
(Bottled, BBE 02/2005, extremely dusty bottle from BeerMania, "SPRL B.MARCHAL") Dark brown color with a small but lasting and lacy head. Very malty-licoricey aroma with dried fruit - almost exactly like Gouden Carolus Christmas. Licoricey-malty, slightly smoky and fruity flavor. Medium-bodied, slightly wineous, sweetish palate with quite high, foamy carbonation. This must be quite and old bottle, and it seems to have developed a distinctive Gouden Carolus licoriceness over time (as nobody else seems to have made notes of that). A quite pleasant and balanced, although foamy-carbonated dubbel.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 ALLOVATE (2098) - Butler, AUSTRALIA - JUN 29, 2005
Tasted this after downing the Blond and found this to be a little more enjoyable. Maybe just a bias towards darker beers as it similarly lacked depth of flavour in the mouth, but it was quite balanced and appearance was once again 100%. Poured from the bottle into a short tulip glass, a lasting thick tan head formed from the pour and laced rings down the glass. The beer itself a deep ruby brown and almost opaque. Toffee and vanilla nose with a light hint of biscuity malt. Had a noticeable alcohol spice to it, peppery, similar to the Blond. Pleasant mouth feel, light bodied and overly subtle in flavour. Light spritzy carbonation assisted all it could in awakening the biscuity malt, sweet sugars and nutty-yeasty flavours, but to little effect until it was almost luke-warm. Short in the swallow with little aftertaste and only a dryish feeling from the alcohol, it showed a little more character than the Blond but still lacked any defining traits. Not that bad a beer, just a little too subtle.
