Commercial Description:
Blanche des Honnelles (1991) was originally very localised, and has since expanded beyond the boundries of the greater and lesser Honnelle rivers, from which it takes it's name. The Blanche des Honnelles leaves the beaten path somewhat. It has an amber colour which is after all the traditional appearance of the Blanches. It is also stronger (6%) than the Blanches that we know. Its taste is surprising and is not comparable to the brews with the same name that are now on the market. If the bouquet is subdued its first flavour is a stark dry sharpness against a pepper background. There is no acidity in this Blanche that is made with three cereals (barley, wheat, oats). It has a stimulating taste, leaving a subdued but refreshing final impression. Lots of character and curious.

First pour from a 750ml bottle in a Hoegaarden glass. Pours cloudy medium orange (slightly dark for a "white") with lasting white head. Aroma of spice/coriander, sweet vanilla-orange. Flavors fruity orange, honey with very slight caramelization. Medium body (slightly heavy for style, though is called “double white”). Nice soft mouthfeel. An excellent boutique version of the style, though less quaffable and refreshing than others.

Bottle. Pours a hazy dark yellow with a small milky-creamy head. Aroma has loads of fruits, grapefruit, oranges, banana, lemons and a load of wheat as well. Very full mouthfeel with a champagne feel to it. Flavour is extremely nice. Oranges abound again, some coriander and a general dryness pervading through. Really a good example of the style!

Brasserie de Rocs Blanche Double

4/27/2007: Pours a golden color. It is pretty clear (not hazy, cloudy, or murky), but there are some floating chunks in it. It has a huge rocky white head. The aroma is wheat malt and has some subtle sweetness to it. The flavor is light citrus, delicately spicy, and has a hint of alcohol. The body is medium-light. The beer is light and slightly efferevescent on the palate. This is a pretty good Witbier overall, but nothing out of the ordinary...

750 mL bottle; $4.99+tax (on sale) from Noonan’s in Hamilton, Ohio. 6% Alc/Vol. Best before end 2007 (4B12).

This is just superb. Rich, almost buttery aroma. Flavor is a bit more epehmeral than the aroma, but still pronounced. Baking spices and a tiny hint of candied yelllow fruits.
