SwedeDog (364), Windsor, Connecticut, USA Mar 16, 2007 750mL bottle, drink before 2009. Very hazy and somewhere between yellow and orange. Almost looks like Airborne. Nice tart and citrusy aroma with a decent amount of spice (especially corriander). I’ll admit, it took a bit for this to grow on me. It starts rather wheaty and heavy on the citrus. Spices, honey and those oats all mix together to make a great, full mouthfeel. Very dry, tart and peppery finish. Very good wit. Poperinge (359), Cowtown, Alberta, Canada Mar 3, 2007 Updated: Mar 11, 2007Brought back from BC by TimE and thanks. A meaty wit with some balls to it and a good beer. DruncanVeasey (2695), The Penguin’s Arms, Europe, Warwickshire, England Feb 26, 2007 Murky haze with creamy white suds and swimming with bits. Heavily coriandered, peppery snout with a touch of honey. Silkily oaty with a potent dose of Tripel Karmeliet-style spice, and finishing with an appealing dryness atypical of the style. Beerdedone (1873), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 21, 2007 Bottle sampled with stegosaurus. Pours a dark yellow with a fat head. Aroma of malt, honey, wheat & spices. Flavor is citrus honey with some hops. finish was clean and smooth with no aftertaste. bask (305), Leuven, Belgium Feb 20, 2007 Orange body, small creamy white head. Strong wheat, lemonish dry aroma, some orange peel. Citric flavour, strong lemonish finish. Good white, but a little bit dull. Palidor19 (1750), Brandon, Florida, USA Feb 6, 2007 The first thing that hit when I sipped this was the carbonation level. It hit me hard. Tastes of fruity gum, mild spices and a touch of coriander makes this very smooth beer to drink with friends nick76 (2636), Tampa, Florida, USA Feb 6, 2007 The aroma has coriander, bananas, bubble gum, yeast, and wheat malt. The appearance is amber with a three finger white head. The flavor is like the aroma with a somewhat fruity taste. The palate is thin but OK for the style with a light pepper aftertaste. Overall it’s nice and different but not great. boboski (1095), Alabama, USA Feb 1, 2007 Pours out hazy orange, agressive head forming and taking on a cream color. Retention is excellent, a tall mound of frothy carbonation spewing from the center of the thick looking body. Aroma is indeed curious: while there are wheat and coriander notes present, a bold pepper presence is the most noticeable trait. Also noted are sweet fruits(apple) and spicy yeast. Flavor proves that the spicy, peppery nose was no illusion. A very interesting and flavorful witbier, it also showcases more citrus and apple, banana, vanilla custard and spices. Alcohol is zippy and apparent, though not cumbersome. Finishes dry and mildly spicy, a welcome departure from typical beers in this style category. Palate is soft but very lively and coats the tongue in all the right places. Another great beer from des Rocs. If this were any drier it would be too much so, but as it is, it just draws me back for the next sip, very enticing. This brewery just couldn’t recieve enough accolades for innovative and consistent brewing that retains a genuine traditional feel.
