Blanche des Honnelles (1991) was originally very localised, and has since expanded beyond the boundries of the greater and lesser Honnelle rivers, from which it takes it's name. The Blanche des Honnelles leaves the beaten path somewhat. It has an amber colour which is after all the traditional appearance of the Blanches. It is also stronger (6%) than the Blanches that we know. Its taste is surprising and is not comparable to the brews with the same name that are now on the market. If the bouquet is subdued its first flavour is a stark dry sharpness against a pepper background. There is no acidity in this Blanche that is made with three cereals (barley, wheat, oats). It has a stimulating taste, leaving a subdued but refreshing final impression. Lots of character and curious.

Media frizzantezza. Interessante.

A gift bottle from a Belgian friend from his cellar. Best before has passed in 2007, so this rating is maybe not comparable to the fresh ones. Quite heavy yeast growth in the bottom of the bottle, but with a carefull pour it came out clear amber though with no head whatsoever. I had to leave around an inch to the bottle to ensure that not too much yeasts poured out. Aroma is mild, biscuit, dead leaves. Taste is also quite mild and has pepper and mild carbonation. Surprisingly well preserved specimen that maybe has lost some of its aroma during the years.

Bottle from Beermoth, Manchester. Pours murky amber with a medium-sized white head and plenty of yeast sediment forming on the bottom and floating around - looks fairly unappealing but proves instantly the unfiltered nature of this beer. The aroma displays hayish and bready maltiness and fruitiness with an earthy, farmhouse -themed undertone. Taste is light sweet, low on bitterness and featuring ripe fruitiness, quite much maltiness with both barley and wheat contributing and yeasty spiciness. Peculiar mix for a witbier but not an unpleasant one. The palate is smooth, fairly full-bodied and creamy; very drinkable. Very, very unique witbier: not a total hit for me, but did show some good qualities.

Cloudy golden honey ochre, creamy thin but long head taht gives nice lacing layers. Sour semidry aroma has bit spices, coriander, wheat. Round, soft carbonation, medium body, slight sourness, semisweet, long finish is fruity, mild spices. Nice palate, easy to drink and enjoy, tasty, nuanced.

Bottle at home in London - sourced from THE BeerMerchants. Pours unclear gold with a creamy white head. Sugary and meaty wheat in the nose, faint fusel notes, some flowers, ripe orange. Medium sweet flavor with some doughy wheat bread, minimal bitterness, some yeast, tangerine, bubblegum. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Finishes sweet, relatively simple, with more doughy wheat bread, light cereal, Belgian yeast, candi sugar, white grape, mild citrus. Decent.

Bottle. Cloudy dark golden with white head. Sweet fruits with apricot and peach, lemon, herbs, fresh bread. Sweet at first with a very light sourness and light bitter finish. Nice velvety feel. Pleasantly surprised!
