Blanche des Honnelles (1991) was originally very localised, and has since expanded beyond the boundries of the greater and lesser Honnelle rivers, from which it takes it's name. The Blanche des Honnelles leaves the beaten path somewhat. It has an amber colour which is after all the traditional appearance of the Blanches. It is also stronger (6%) than the Blanches that we know. Its taste is surprising and is not comparable to the brews with the same name that are now on the market. If the bouquet is subdued its first flavour is a stark dry sharpness against a pepper background. There is no acidity in this Blanche that is made with three cereals (barley, wheat, oats). It has a stimulating taste, leaving a subdued but refreshing final impression. Lots of character and curious.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Alexei and Raphaela’s. Thanks Yoav. Cloudy gold and headless. Roasted peanuts, salt and some spices in the nose, sour in a weird way in the mouth, mouthful of yeast and quite dirty. Full-bodied and very fizzy, peanut butter stickiness and aftertaste.

Orange colour for a "double white"? Rather watery feel in the mouth at first. Bitter like the average pils. Taste of the average Belgian lager.

A white beer colored like a blonde beer. Aroma and taste are linked, unfortunately I can’t find the words to described it. Not that it is spectacular or something, as the best deScription I found was :"it’s like a Maes, with more taste". Not bad, but not awesome either.

Bottle from Beermerchants. Pours copper-amber, single finger white head. Aroma of banana, vanilla, toffee, caramel. Taste is much the same just with lemon and orange to add, a sharp, bitter, dry finish, overall very sweet, but easily drinkable.

0.33 l bottle at Gollem Amstelstraat, bottled in august 2014. Hazy, golden amber with a medium large, creamy, tan head. Sweetish, fruity-spicy aroma of banana, vanilla, honey, vanilla and lemon. Sweetish, fruity-spicy taste of citrus, vanilla, banana and honey, followed by a short, slightly bitter and yeasty finish. Medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice.

Bottle from Drinkshop. Hazy orange colour. Moderate retention. Aroma assertively yeasty, light spices. Taste is full bodied, moderate yeast presence, fruity, flowery, perfumey. Solid honeyish malty base.

Bottle. Nose is very wheat. Banana, straw, a little fruity. Taste is banana, very sweet candy sugar, strawberry, cream, almost vanilla, wheat. Mouthfeel is oddly watery. Strange cloying wit.

4/1/2009 1:36:17 PM Bottle from Bierkoning. Murky orange body with milky head. Nose of chocolate and fruits. Quite a punch for a witbier with serious chocolate notes. Also citrus and pineapple in the mix. Refreshing and creamy. Gets a bit yeasty and spicier towards the end. Nice, as always, from this brewer.
