Commercial Description:
Blanche des Honnelles (1991) was originally very localised, and has since expanded beyond the boundries of the greater and lesser Honnelle rivers, from which it takes it's name. The Blanche des Honnelles leaves the beaten path somewhat. It has an amber colour which is after all the traditional appearance of the Blanches. It is also stronger (6%) than the Blanches that we know. Its taste is surprising and is not comparable to the brews with the same name that are now on the market. If the bouquet is subdued its first flavour is a stark dry sharpness against a pepper background. There is no acidity in this Blanche that is made with three cereals (barley, wheat, oats). It has a stimulating taste, leaving a subdued but refreshing final impression. Lots of character and curious.

Thick white head on a dark cloudy body. I would have expected a lighter beer, but this one was really strong. Probably what they mean by "Double white". Not bad, but not an everyday beer either.

75cl bottle from Knightly Spirits (Orlando, FL). Pours a cloudy dark golden color with a thick and foamy bright white two finger head. Good retention and lacing. Aroma is typical witbier -- bread, yeast, grain, and spice. Somewhat astringent. Faint hint of citrus. Flavor is very different from the nose--almost faint at times -with muted notes of wet hay, sweet malt, and veggie and meat notes. Clearly visible and sizable chunks of yeast. Generally light bodied with faint finish.

In the 750 mL bottle from Beertopia. I fine beer for $6.99, let me tell you. Explosively carbonated with a dense cake of yeast in the bottom that just would not go into suspension no matter how hard I swirled. Mild spiciness, a tinge of black pepper on the tongue. I had hoped for more orange, but mostly got a tart citrus. This is chunky with ginormous flocculent yeast colonies abounding throughout the pour. Even though I only managed about two-thirds of all the yeast into the glasses, It was still way too much yeastiness and bread dough to get down.

Hazy orange colour, white head. Aroma has a lot of artificial esters, wheat and bread. Very unpleasant. Flavour has wheat and fruits. Bitter finish. The aroma ruins everything.

Pours dull orange with fizzy white head. Aromas are dominated by wheat and spice. Palate shows more complexity some honey and chewy caramel are present albeit subtle, while wheat brings with it a touch of sourness that complements the hinting citrus. Yeasty spice drives home the finish. Carbonation is quite lively, giving the impression of a dry finish. I can appreciate that this example is really well balanced etc but honestly I’m not that big a fan of the style.
