COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Blanche des Honnelles (1991) was originally very localised, and has since expanded beyond the boundries of the greater and lesser Honnelle rivers, from which it takes it's name. The Blanche des Honnelles leaves the beaten path somewhat. It has an amber colour which is after all the traditional appearance of the Blanches. It is also stronger (6%) than the Blanches that we know. Its taste is surprising and is not comparable to the brews with the same name that are now on the market. If the bouquet is subdued its first flavour is a stark dry sharpness against a pepper background. There is no acidity in this Blanche that is made with three cereals (barley, wheat, oats). It has a stimulating taste, leaving a subdued but refreshing final impression. Lots of character and curious.

7/V/2012 - 33cl bottle from De Hopduvel (Gent) @ home - BB: 20/V/13 (2012-472)

Clear orange beer, big aery white head, unstable, big bubbles forming, non adhesive. A clear wheat beer? Aroma: grains, little sweet, sour bread yeast or yeasty dough, some honey. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: a bit sour, pretty malty, unsubtle orange peel, little bitter, some fruity notes. Aftertaste: ripe fruits, sweet malts, bitter touch, more orange peel, some honey. Not what I would classify as a wheat beer, but it’s not too bad.

(Bottle) Pours deep golds with a white head. The aroma holds is subtle with notes of grain, wheat, spies, flowers, shampoo and a touch of fruits. The flavor is light sweet and tiny bitter with notes of wheat, light fruit, touch of spices and mild hops. The mouthfeel round, soft and velvety with a light carbonation. Mild citric and bready finish. Light to medium bodied.

Look awful of course, as most Abbaye des Rocs beers do. Clear orange yellow with massive flocks of yeast floating around, even after pouring very gently. Aroma and taste are spicy, funky and a bit barnyard, some coriander. Bit saisonish sometimes. Nothing like an ordinary "witbier". It’s a lot tastier and better then that.

Bottle. Hazy orange yellow with a fine white head and some suspended yeast residue. Coriander and lemon. Great malty sweetness. It is like hoegaarden but more complex. Maltier. A little bit peppery. I’m a fan of the style.
