COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Blanche des Honnelles (1991) was originally very localised, and has since expanded beyond the boundries of the greater and lesser Honnelle rivers, from which it takes it's name. The Blanche des Honnelles leaves the beaten path somewhat. It has an amber colour which is after all the traditional appearance of the Blanches. It is also stronger (6%) than the Blanches that we know. Its taste is surprising and is not comparable to the brews with the same name that are now on the market. If the bouquet is subdued its first flavour is a stark dry sharpness against a pepper background. There is no acidity in this Blanche that is made with three cereals (barley, wheat, oats). It has a stimulating taste, leaving a subdued but refreshing final impression. Lots of character and curious.

Full disclosure, I’m drinking this on a Friday after a very hard week at work, so rubbing alcohol would rate pretty high right now. With that said, this is a really, really good beer, with a spicy, fruity, caramel/toffee flavor and a nice, dry finish. This is halfway between a white beer and a standard Belgian strong ale, and that’s a good thing.

Noses of subtle wheat, cereal, light coriander whilst offering a soft fluffy white head and a golden opalescent colour. Fresh, light carbonated, good lacing and offers nice flavours of cereal, light spices. Very harmonic with a light-medium body with some sweetness to it. The finish is soft. A very interesting blanche taking on the task of bridgeing between belgian blanche and german Hefeweizen.

Head is avergae, frothy, white and slowly diminishing. Body is hazy yellow orange and sparkling. Aroma contains light bread, grain, flowers, spruce, citrus fruits, grape, raisin, pear, peach, pineapple, vanilla nad cola. Flavor is light acidic, then light acidic and light bitter followed by light acidic, light bitter and light sweet and finishing in bitter. Body is medium with creamy texture and soft carbonation. Fresh, lots of fruits, soft and subtle and hoppy. Very good, different from other wheat beers.

2004: Cloudy medium orange with a large fluffy white head. Aroma is a zesty and spicy lemon and coriander, quite bold compared to most wits. Punchy, carbonated flavor of lemon peel, ginger, bread, and coriander. 8/5/8/3/16, 4.0

2014, bottle at the brewery in Montignies-sur-Roc.
Creamy and soft in the mouth, experience suggesting wheat and oat.
Strangely herbal / licorice-like, similar to the brune sampled at the same time.
Medium body, low bitterness, medium acidity.
Pasty / chalky yeast texture.
Lacks the cloying sweetness of the others, but still quite sugary. 6/4/6/3/12, 3.1

Classic Wallonian since 1991. Brewed with additional oats and, very atypically, not spiced. Yellowish white, thick moussy foam, deep golden colour with orange hue, clear but cloudy after adding the deposit. Appealing malty and grainy aroma with a nice balance between barley and wheat, hints of apple, flowers, white wine, bananas, bread. Taste begins like a classic witbier, sourish wheat nicely balanced with sweetish barley, silky mouthfeel thanks to the oats, then becoming dryer with more (albeit aromatic) hop bitterness in the finish than expected for the style, as well as a bit of warming alcohol. Very nice beer, one of my favorites in the style, but far from a stereotypical Hoegaarden-clone - which in this case is a good thing.
