COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Abbaye des Rocs (9% alcohol vol.) is a pure malt beer, with no added sugar. The entire range of tastes is directly linked to the double fermentation, the precise quantities of malts (7 types) as well as the mixtures of three kinds of hops (Belgian, German and Czech). Its colour is a striking deep and majestic red. Its taste is rich and full of subtlety. It is tasted like a red wine with which it shares the ruby colour without having the tannin. It develops a strong sweet smell. It confirms the initial impression in the first mouthful, with a sharp body that is balanced with a certain fruitiness. It frees itself on the palate and develops an impressive depth of taste. Some traces of burnt wood are detectable, but never scorched even if it contains this kind of malt. The foretaste is very prolonged because of its rich and unctuous development throughout the mouth. The bitter and sugar tendencies (even though there is no sugar in its composition) compete and come back together to the taster's great satisfaction. It is a deep, mystic and extremely mature beer to be classed among the great products of our soil.

Bu en bouteille de 33cl, une couleur brune et un col mousseux brun, en bouche on a un première attaque très forte sur la café et elle reste grâce au sucre en seconde bouche très bon

Short dark beige head with some candy, fennel and hops aromas. Quite complex. Opaque dark copper body. Thick in mouth like soup with chocolate, nuts and candy taste. Very rich and well balanced. Would be perfect with even more length and less "fat". ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

75 cl. bottle, shared - a slow gusher. Lovely unclear, dark amber colour with ruby hues. Dense, off-white head, that faded fast. Rich, fruity aroma with caramel malts, spices, yeasts, initial dark, dried fruits that turns in to something sweeter - apricot and raisins. Candid sugar and grass/hay notes, some alcohol. Taste is sweet. Full body, thicker texture and a lively carbonation. Finishes malty and fruity with some bitterness and a light hint of liquorice. Big, rich, very Belgian, complex and excellent.

Une brune typique belge, épicée, caramel, café. Je n’y ai pas trouvé de complexité. Déception.

Bottle 0,33ltr: Hazy dark brown coloured brew with nicely bitter taste. Hints of caramel, spices, vanilla and some slightly sourness. This beer is very above expectations, thought first another Abbey Dubbel but i was wrong.

33 cl bottle, 9%, best before 20.2.2014, into a wide tulip. Appearance: Red color, clear with a lot of rocky sediment, nice smooth creamy beige head. Strong malty spicy nose. Aroma is syrupy, lots of malts, dark bread, wood, earthy yeast. Dark grapes, red apple peel, a whole of raisins, nuts, caramel, plum, an hint of licorice, cinnamon, spices. Winous indeed, very rich. Taste has a wonderful harmony within malts sweetness and hops bitterness, a bit salty, umami, tasty, tasty and damn tasty, can’t stop sipping. Finish is sweetish, but somewhat short with hoppy overtones. Medium to full bodied, a bit tart. Palate:, alc 9% but the alcohol is subtle and very pleasing, liquor like, comes out after a while. Incredibly smooth mouthfeel, soft carbonation, creamy. Overall: this is a wonderful, classy, ultra smooth. But personaly i’d like a bit more prominent hops profile, anyway for winter this is a winner.

Dark brown colour, slim creamy head. Nose and taste get a delicate mix of flavours from the special mix of hops and yeasts: spices (pepper, nutmeg), dried and sweet fruits like plume and figs, liquorice and even some woody smokyness. Very balanced between sour, bitter and spicy with a touch of sweetness rounding it off. No big alcohol punch despite the 9°. Medium bodied, low-medium carbonation. Favourite brown ale out there.

33cl bottle in a Trappist glass. Pours a wonderful dark brown colour with a moderate beige head. Truly amazing beverage. Rich cakelike taste with prunes, figs and lots of malt tastes dominate. One of the better (if not the best) Belgian brown ale I have tasted. Well worth the hype.

Pours a murky red brown. Delicious aromas of malt and sweetess. Very soft, medium body with little carbo. Tastes of malts, maple syrup, red fruit. Complex, but very well balanced. Suberb beer.
