COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Abbaye des Rocs (9% alcohol vol.) is a pure malt beer, with no added sugar. The entire range of tastes is directly linked to the double fermentation, the precise quantities of malts (7 types) as well as the mixtures of three kinds of hops (Belgian, German and Czech). Its colour is a striking deep and majestic red. Its taste is rich and full of subtlety. It is tasted like a red wine with which it shares the ruby colour without having the tannin. It develops a strong sweet smell. It confirms the initial impression in the first mouthful, with a sharp body that is balanced with a certain fruitiness. It frees itself on the palate and develops an impressive depth of taste. Some traces of burnt wood are detectable, but never scorched even if it contains this kind of malt. The foretaste is very prolonged because of its rich and unctuous development throughout the mouth. The bitter and sugar tendencies (even though there is no sugar in its composition) compete and come back together to the taster's great satisfaction. It is a deep, mystic and extremely mature beer to be classed among the great products of our soil.

Bottle, 75cL. Home. A clear brown-red mahogany beer with yeast sediments. Large white-off head. Medium persistence. Fruity aroma (prune, plum), spices (liquorice), caramel, roasty malt, herbs. Medium sugary and warming sweetness with medium refreshing waves of bitterness. Full body, oily texture, average carbonation, medium sweet warming finish. Overall, a great beer : personality, power and... delicious :)

Dark brown, with dense, medium, white head, which lasts for not so long, low lacing. Complex malty sweetness, low caramel and bready moderately low dark fruit esters - plums, raisins, really interesting spiciness with some pepper and mint aromas, which makes it quite refreshing, very low hop aroma, moderate intense perfumy and spicy alcohol notes. Moderatly rich maltiness, sweet, low caramel and bread falvors, low dark fruit esters, again very interesting spiciness - peppermint, low bitterness, alcohol balance rich and malty character, it’s more like vinous-alcohol, semi-sweet finish. Thin, medium bodied, moderate carbonation, moderate alcohol warmth. Rich, complex and strong beer with powerfull maltiness, balanced with alcohol and spiceness.

Cloudy, dark reddish amber color with a very fine, quickly disappearing beige head. Sweet caramel and fruity aroma (plums, raisins, dates). Sweet complex taste, lots of malts, thick consistency, very little hops. Nice long winey finish. Excellent.

Brune tres sombre, petit collet persistant.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Decent beige head, brown, black color. Light on aromas, bready malts and hints of toffee, wood. Warm, toasted malts at the beginning, which turn more present and sweeter at the same time. Carbonation is lively, vanishes soon, due to the intense malts. Interesting development on the palate, as the beer starts earthy, bready with hints of wood and rather dry, the malt needs a second to turn sweet and warming, with hints of fruit and also spices. Almost too sweet aftertaste, sticky. Refreshing at first, loosing its carbonation to the sweetness. Complex beer with a decent body, defined by malts, with an unusual high carbonation.

ruigo (1158) - PORTUGAL - MAR 14, 2014
UPDATED: APR 9, 2014 Shared a 75cl bottle from Cora (Luxembourg). Pours a reddish deep brown colour with a very thin tan head. Aroma is malty, roasted, nuts and red fruits. Average to soft carbonation and medium oily body. Taste is well balanced, more sweet than bitter, with a long roasted caramel dry finish. Overall, a very pleasant beer that asks to be drunk
