Abbaye des Rocs (9% alcohol vol.) is a pure malt beer, with no added sugar. The entire range of tastes is directly linked to the double fermentation, the precise quantities of malts (7 types) as well as the mixtures of three kinds of hops (Belgian, German and Czech). Its colour is a striking deep and majestic red. Its taste is rich and full of subtlety. It is tasted like a red wine with which it shares the ruby colour without having the tannin. It develops a strong sweet smell. It confirms the initial impression in the first mouthful, with a sharp body that is balanced with a certain fruitiness. It frees itself on the palate and develops an impressive depth of taste. Some traces of burnt wood are detectable, but never scorched even if it contains this kind of malt. The foretaste is very prolonged because of its rich and unctuous development throughout the mouth. The bitter and sugar tendencies (even though there is no sugar in its composition) compete and come back together to the taster's great satisfaction. It is a deep, mystic and extremely mature beer to be classed among the great products of our soil.

dark brown colour with ruby notes, 1 inch creamy beige head, which lasts for severl minutes; aroma of dried fruits (figs and raisin), caramel, some minimal herbal notes, biscuit and spicy alcohol; taste of dried fruits, candy sugar, biscuity notes, hints of mild roasted coffee and minimal sourness; spicy alcoholic aftertaste with some bitterness; excellent Belgian strong ale for reasonable price - one of the best value for money, I’ve ever experienced

Bottle to celebrate my 3rd anniversary on RateBeer. Pours hazy copper brown with airy but stable beige head. Clear aroma of malt and caramel, with fruity and leafy notes and touches of hops. Sweetish notes, of malt, raisins, caramel and fruit, with hoppy and estery notes and some faint dusty touches. Dusty and estery aftertaste with fruity hints. Rich body. Well-balanced and very enjoyable. Great stuff.

7/28/2007 4:10:54 PM Bottle at home. And what a bottle - lot 2009. Have been looking forward to this one. Smells quite skunky, rich, sugary. Very large foamy head. Quite strong flavour. Malty, textured. Lots of tastes into the finish. Enjoyable.

With quite a nutty aroma, this beer pours perfectly with a big frofy head and a dark brown complexion. This brown beer has a complex flavour that lingers and keeps you coming back for more.
