COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Abbaye des Rocs (9% alcohol vol.) is a pure malt beer, with no added sugar. The entire range of tastes is directly linked to the double fermentation, the precise quantities of malts (7 types) as well as the mixtures of three kinds of hops (Belgian, German and Czech). Its colour is a striking deep and majestic red. Its taste is rich and full of subtlety. It is tasted like a red wine with which it shares the ruby colour without having the tannin. It develops a strong sweet smell. It confirms the initial impression in the first mouthful, with a sharp body that is balanced with a certain fruitiness. It frees itself on the palate and develops an impressive depth of taste. Some traces of burnt wood are detectable, but never scorched even if it contains this kind of malt. The foretaste is very prolonged because of its rich and unctuous development throughout the mouth. The bitter and sugar tendencies (even though there is no sugar in its composition) compete and come back together to the taster's great satisfaction. It is a deep, mystic and extremely mature beer to be classed among the great products of our soil.

750ml bottle. Fizzes like crazy as you take the cap off (no cork), but thankfully it’s not a gusher, just in a hurry to get in the duvel tulip. Pours chocolate brown with a ton of coarse ground pepper sized floaties and a two fingered oatmeal colored head that dies away slowly. The aroma is dark, ripe fruits, raisins, prunes, plums and some spicy, yeasty aromas. Maybe some Burgandy. The mouthfeel is large. The taste is sweet at first with dark, ripe fruits followed by some light alcohol notes, some light bitternes, and an almost creamy mouthfeel that finishes with a lot of taste and a nice, mild alcohol burn. Pretty tasty.

Pours a small frothy off-white head that mostly diminishes. Body is hazy red brown. Aroma contains moderate malts (caramel, straw, cookie, dark bread, roasted ad burnt malts), light hops (spruce, orange, grapefruit), light yeasts (leather, earth, barnyard) and sweet dried fruits like grape, raisin, etc., ear, ruby port, cola and spices. Flavor is light acidic, then light acidic and light sweet followed by light acidic, light sweet and light bitter which then goes to sweet and light bitter and finishes in light bitter. Body is medium with creamy texture and soft carbonation. brilliant! Balanced, full of flavors and aromas and complexity.

Simply amazing beer - notes of treacle toffee (I would love to know how they get this flavour without using sugars)

Topper! Een lekker bier beetje zoete afdronk. Je proeft niet dat het 9% alcohol bevat. Drinkt makkelijk weg.

2004. From bottle. Cloudy brown with a tan head. Aroma of clove, sugar, plums and berries / grapes. Creamy mouthfeel, vinous and sweet, frothy texture. Bananas, clove, bread, etc. 8/5/8/4/16, 4.1

2014, bottle from the brewery in Montignies-sur-Roc.
Overpowering anise and fennel seed aroma.
Hot alcohol combined with this anise note reminds of schnapps.
Pasty and yeasty in the mouth, full-bodied, absurdly sweet and just a tad sour.
