750 ml. bottle. It’s another gusher, but a slow one. Rich aromas of bread and darker fruits. Like raisins and plums. Color is ruby brune and the beige/tan head was very respectible. The gusher raised small chunks. Near full bodied with coarsely creamy carbonation. Smooth. Flavor is hint of citrus which is covered by lighter fruit flavors like berry, red plum, touch of oak wood. There’s a decent amount of bitter to match the fruit sweetness. It’s more subtle and complex than I can readily describe. Incredibly good ale.

Jul 21, 2008 Oh my goodness, he rates again. Pours light hazy brown with thin off-white head. Either I poured way too aggressively or it’s just how this beer is, but I got a ton of solid matter in my glass. Aroma is rife with dark fruits and caramel. Very enticing. The taste is totally there to back it up. More dark fruits and just the right amount of sweetness in there. Decently thick on the palate and finishes plenty malty. So glad I decided to pick this up upstate, as I couldn’t seem to find this in the NYC area.

Jul 21, 2008 Bottle from The Vale Inn, Bollington. One of my favourite brunes. Jam packed with floaty bits. Lighter brown almost nearing amber-ish with an off white head. Great aroma and taste of raisins and dark fruits, right amount of sweetness for me. Not too heavy, lovely.

Jul 21, 2008 Bottle at Kulminator. Poured dark brown eith a beige long lasting head. Great aroma of dark fruits like raisins and prunes with spicy yeasty notes. I sense some dark berries too. Flavour is a very pleasant with strong fruity notes and spices from the yeast. Great creamy mouthfeel.

does not count  Jul 20, 2008 33 cl bottle. Loud pop when opened. Large light brown head which took some time to settle,(not much of lacing though). Color is somewhere in the deep brown region with lots of bubbles (could be some red in there...). Aroma is pleasant with a mixture of yeast, bread, caramell and a faint scent of green apples. The body is full and rather creamy and the high carbonation can be well sensed. The finish is nice and warming from the high alcoholic content, which otherwise isn’t so obvious. The flavor is rather sweet, though well suported by a nice bitterness. Aftertaste is pleasant and lasts long but after some tasting the aftertaste becomes a bit sour.
Overall this is a very pleasant beer, especially if one is focused on analysing it, but I find it somewhat hard too like it all the way through which brings down my rating for the overall impression.
