COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Abbaye des Rocs (9% alcohol vol.) is a pure malt beer, with no added sugar. The entire range of tastes is directly linked to the double fermentation, the precise quantities of malts (7 types) as well as the mixtures of three kinds of hops (Belgian, German and Czech). Its colour is a striking deep and majestic red. Its taste is rich and full of subtlety. It is tasted like a red wine with which it shares the ruby colour without having the tannin. It develops a strong sweet smell. It confirms the initial impression in the first mouthful, with a sharp body that is balanced with a certain fruitiness. It frees itself on the palate and develops an impressive depth of taste. Some traces of burnt wood are detectable, but never scorched even if it contains this kind of malt. The foretaste is very prolonged because of its rich and unctuous development throughout the mouth. The bitter and sugar tendencies (even though there is no sugar in its composition) compete and come back together to the taster's great satisfaction. It is a deep, mystic and extremely mature beer to be classed among the great products of our soil.

Well, I have to kick myself a few times for making a rookie mistake. I’ve tried to not let the numbers reflect the fact that a bad pour sent the yeast into suspension, causing a chunky mess to be poured, even in the first glass. My problem was due to the relatively long neck and my one-handed pour while holding my snifter-type glass in the other hand. This caused a bit too much forward lean on the bottle and a resultant glug-glug of air trying to get out of the too-full neck. The turbulence made for a messy beer. Nonetheless, this bottle obviously had a huge amount of sediment. Beyond that, my bottle was obviously past its prime, fairly vinous and oxidized. Despite this, there were some great caramel flavors, sweet toffee-like chewiness, a great, light-tan head, and other enjoyable qualities. Too bad I only had one bottle!

Flaska från Saveur-biere. Mörkt brunröd med mycket beige skum. Doft av karamell, choklad , jäst och lite körsbär. Söt med lite syrlig eftersmak, inslag av karamell och choklad.

Bottle from Beergium. Hazy dark red/brown with a white foam ring. Sweet, yeasty aroma with a lot of figs and raisins. Taste is very sweet with chocolate, caramel, slight citrus and faint bitterness. Medium to full body, soft carbonation, smooth.
Very easy to drink, quite dangerous due to the high abv. A bit too sweet for me and the aroma was quite faint. Still quite good.

An amber Belgian strong ale with caramel and coffee, a little bit sparkling and bitter with a spicy end. Lekkere bier

Bottle. Dark ruby with little head. Taste and aroma share toast, caramel, toffee and a little dark fruit. Medium-thick, somewhat sticky with a long finish. Simple and almost perfect.

Bottle. Brown with a small head. Not a lot of life and slightly sweet. Didn’t really realise its strength which should be taken as a compliment. An excellent beer.

Pours a murky chestnut with an off white head. Lovely dark fruits aroma and a taste of this with spices.

Hazy amber color with big white head. Aroma of spicy yeasts, coriander, toffee, and a hint of tartness. The tartness reminds me of cherries and berries. Taste is more toffee, caramel, malty, dark fruits with prunes, raisins, nice booze kick. Carbonation is smooth but prominent, very creamy texture. Warming finish with spices. A complex classic indeed. Still feels fresh despite the heaviness. Superbly priced as well. I like it.

Eccellente belga.

Bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - dark brown to black with a reddish tinge. Nice head. Nose - stewed apples into prunes with backdrop of toffee and candy sugar. Taste - stewed prunes with a slight boozy backbone. Finishing with drying toffee. Palate - medium to full bodied with a creamy yet tangy texture and a finish that is somehow sweet and sour at the same time. Overall - very indulgent.
