JorisPPattyn (5155), Antwerpen, Belgium Sep 3, 2004 Orange-gold beer, very carbonated to irregular, slightly cream-coloured head. Great fruity nose - like mandarine peels, general impression as Mandarine Napoléon, but without the alcohol attack. Citrussy and spicey taste, grains of Paradise, Laosroot, touch of ginger, Curaçao peel. If there’s coriander, it remains hidden. Retronasal, there’s a bit phenolic flavour. Medium-bodied, bit dry-out effect, slightly slick. Very nicely spiced beer, no spice overreaching itself: excellent balance. Lunkie (1020), Glen Iris, Australia Aug 29, 2004 Smooth feel fizzy like eating sherbert. Not inspiring. Wuld only want one glass of this one. Gusler (2655), Tucson, Arizona, USA Aug 15, 2004 The beer after its checking out of the 330ml brown bottle pours a foggy yellow-orange color with a modest bright white head that vanishes rather quickly, the texture creamy and the lace forms a glutinous sheet that sticks to the glass. Nose is tart with a hint of yeast and a nice malt tone at the back, crisp and fresh to the senses, start is sweet and the malt pleasant with the top light. Finish is ferine in its acidity, the hops spicy and the aftertaste sour and quite dry, a drinkable beer.
Nate (2533), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 12, 2004 Mild sweet Belgian ale aroma, light grains, honey, sugar. Mild hops. Pretty weak, though. Muted orange-amber clear (before dregs) with thin foamy lacing head. Medium body with medium-high carbonation, slight carbonic burn. Starts with decent sweetness, but not overpowering. No acidity, and balanced well with a dry bitterness. Hay, dust, yeast. Finish is a bit watery, with medium bitterness. After is light bitter clean, with chalky yeast residue. A bit peppery. fiulijn (7150), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Jun 22, 2004 Hazy golden color. Balanced Belgian Ale, well brewed, everything is in the average, with a quite evident spicy character; ends quite dry. Aldrighetti (162), Coltura, Italy May 29, 2004 Bottle. White head, low persistant, medium glass sticking. Golden cloudy body, with many clasts of floating yeast. Aroma is yeasty too, light citrussy, herbal. Weak malt fragrance, toasted (walnut). Taste is light aromatic, restrained bitterness, honeyish sweetness.
Easy to drink, medium to light body, dry palate. CEZ (369), Milano, Italy May 26, 2004 [on tap, Udine 2004] Slightly hazy, golden body. Yeast, hops and spices, softened by a fruity touch. Crisp, easy to drink with a good dry finish. A nice belgian ale; definitely reminded me of a witbier due to its yeasty character. Choos (504), Taylors Hill, Australia May 18, 2004 Bubblegum & citrus aroma small head with soap bubble lacing. Cloudy yeast gold pear colour with stacks of dead yeast residue. Begins sweet and smooth gives way to noticeable sourness with some fresh pine needle notes high carbornation for me.
