Very hazy, somewhere between blonde and amber with a solid white head and limited visible carbonation, some minuscule floaters. The nose is rather soft, a mixture of orange, vanilla, fruity and hops. The taste starts out surprisingly strong, hoppy, non-sweet orange peel (though that’s not part of the ingredients). Mostly bitter but with some added complexity; a quite carbonated feel that is almost aggressive; overall quite spiced. The aftertaste hints of citrus fruit bitterness (e.g. grapfruit), some maltiness providing a bit more body, even a touch of alcoholic warmth. Overall not really my thing -probably the only Abbaye des Rocs brew where I’ll say that- but that’s mostly a personal thing. It’s too bitter and in spite of the strong attack has too little body to my liking

33cl bottle. Pours a cloudy orange with steady bubbles and ample yeast! The head holds nicely throughout the drink. The nose has crystallised orange and lemon peel with sweet but delicate spice, almost like a sweet white pepper sensation. It’s CARDOMON! The taste has more tangy orange notes with cake mixture and spice to follow. The palate has a medium to full body, with an excellent thick, creamy but in a lot of ways, elegant texture, then the finish, drops off not to fast, to give excellent length. Overall, I think this is excellent, with so much going on for what is probably in Belgian terms a very lightly alcoholed beer.

Aroma is perfume-like with some toffee and spices. Flavour is sweetish with toffee, some spices, caramel and hints of dark fruits. Somehow I expected more.

Taste is sweet and spicy with yeasty esters, cookie dough, overripe fruits, cloves, white pepper, allspice, blood oranges and lemon zest. Mouthfeel is round and medium bodied. Finish is sweet and slightly bitter with orange juice, allspice, coriander and black pepper.
