3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 DanielBrown (3164) - Birmingham (via Leicester), West Midlands, ENGLAND - APR 25, 2013
Bottle at POV, Brum. Bottle threatened to explode, but did not. Once poured, it looks flat. Aroma is unspecifically orange, like a plug in air freshened. Taste is orange, specs, some wheat, some paper, some delicious yeast. On one hand it’s a bit dull, but on the other hand it’s compelling and enjoyable. You decide.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 czar (2221) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 23, 2013
pours hazy light but bright golden with a decent white head, some retention and lacing. wheat, light acidity, breadied malts, floral grassiness, lightly sprucey, spicy character - malts and hops. light barnyard notes. plenty of yeast. some floaters, even though i have been careful in transport and pouring. average carbonation, light to medium body - oily, good mouthfeel, nice herbal-citrusy and lightly acidic finish. good offering but nothing spectacular like their others.

Pours golden orange with a foamy white head. Aroma of spices, yeast, fruits and farmhouse notes. Taste is fruity with hints of spices, malts and some hints of saison like farmhouse notes. Finish is sweetish with spicy and fruity notes and mild grainy notes. Okay, quite well balanced Belgian blond ale.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Noctilucus (97) - All over Belgium, BELGIUM - JUN 28, 2012
Very hazy, somewhere between blonde and amber with a solid white head and limited visible carbonation, some minuscule floaters.
The nose is rather soft, a mixture of orange, vanilla, fruity and hops. The taste starts out surprisingly strong, hoppy, non-sweet orange peel (though that’s not part of the ingredients). Mostly bitter but with some added complexity; a quite carbonated feel that is almost aggressive; overall quite spiced. The aftertaste hints of citrus fruit bitterness (e.g. grapfruit), some maltiness providing a bit more body, even a touch of alcoholic warmth.
Overall not really my thing -probably the only Abbaye des Rocs brew where I’ll say that- but that’s mostly a personal thing. It’s too bitter and in spite of the strong attack has too little body to my liking
