Commercial Description:
This beer, robust in taste and strength (9%) is the tops for flavour. It has a fruity and spicy bouquet, it has a stark taste, between a sharp bitterness and a caramelised flavour. It has no sugar, and this pure malt beer oscillates between various tendencies which all round off the bitterness. It has a peppery taste at the back of the mouth and a sharpness on the tongue. It is active in the mouth and lets each flavour express itself individually. It is very active in the glass which gives it a full, lasting, head. It has a long conclusion and puts emphasis on an ever present bitterness but less supported by the caramel. The final impression is one of gingerbread without sugar.

Drank from a bottle at home. It was purchased from bruge in Belgium. It has a great taste of spices that fill the mouth and perhaps the brain. Very healthy brown lookign body with no alcohol aroma at all.

750. Pours a dark cloudy copper with a thick, bubbly white head. The aroma’s strong, but still hard to pin down--sour and peppery, with something of a roast tomato tang to it. Interesting but fairly new and different and attention-grabbing. Interesting that it’s called Montagnarde; it does kind of remind me of the sour fish sauce (nuoc maum) that the montagnards ate (and made popular) in Viet Nam. Sharply fizzy attack, bold flavors, and medium-high body. Odd bitter aftertaste. Roasty, sour, tomato-y, fishy, malt-y, ginger-y mid-palate. Puzzling, in some ways--unexpected flavors and they’re a bit hard to reconcile with finding in a beer. The sour, tart, puckery tang of what’s there may just be striking me oddly tonight, though. Definitely one to recommend, one to buy again. Just hard to explain/describe.

(Bottle) Fruity banana and apricot, citrus, scent. Some Belgian ale yeast and alcohol, no noticable hops in the aroma. Good head. Clear color, golden to amber. Malty sweet and also alcohol sweet, warming alcohol. Fruity taste with a faint acidic aftertaste. Low hops in the taste and also low bitterness. Big body and high co2 level. Great Belgian that you want more of. Very nice touch with the apricot and banana.

Clear copper color with tall pillowy light tan head. Big carbonation. Aroma of grains, hay, spicy hops, citrus hops and Belgium yeast. Great tasting beer. First there is spicy bitter hops then some sweet caramel malts which lead into more grainy pale malts. Next the flavor becomes sweet orange citrus mixed with yeast spiciness and brown sugar. Excellent beer
