yngwie (4880), Kristiansand, Norway Nov 2, 2006 Bottled, 0.33cl. It pours unclear, golden-brown, with floaties and a huge, lasting beige head. Quite a lot comes out of the bottle on its own. Complex aroma with tea, sugar, dried fruits, hints of roasted malt and alcohol. The flavor is sweet and maltym with dried fruits, spices and hints of alcohol. Full-bodied, and a finish with alcohol, sweetness and spices. Nice beer, but not a rave. Would like to sample it again though. (061027) HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Oct 25, 2006 Bottle (330ml). Via trade with mouton noire. Hazy amber-gold with a huge lasting fluffy white head, sticky lace. Sweet yeast and spice aroma, candyish malt, dry, sweet fruitiness and a bit peppery - nice. Taste - again, spicy, peppery, yeasty and plenty of sweet malt, it’s somewhat reminiscent of a good gold shred marmalade - enough alcohol and light floral hop bitterness to keep it balanced. Thick syrupy yet oddly somewhat watery body, very lively and alcoholic mouthfeel - quite a pleasing palate sensation. Very nice Belgian strong. Merci, Marie-C!! Vac (2389), San Diego, California, USA Oct 23, 2006 Pours with a golden orange body topped by a thick head with lots of lacing. It’s sweet and floral with a touch of fruit and yeast. Medium bodied and smooth. Otje (668), Leiden, Netherlands Oct 20, 2006 A lovely fruity, spicy and malty beer. Great fruit and honeysuckle aromas. Flavours are very fruity(oranges, peaches), peppery, caramel-malts and a nice soft bitterness towards the end. Very tripel-like beer with lots of depth and an excellent balance. Alcohol is well hidden too. Very nice! BeerBiker (1384), Odense, Denmark Oct 13, 2006 [70 cl bottle from Rob in Hesselager].
This, normally great bottle, I have to rerate one day: It was total undrinkable filled with yeast bowls allover in the glass. I hope Rob will spend it one day I pass him. toccata (70), grembergen, Belgium Oct 8, 2006 Foggy amber beer with a white foam. Nose is spicey and has hints of oranges and bread. The taste is powerfull and a bit alcoholic. the spices are like nutmeg and wood. Finish is soft medicinal bitter. OldMrCrow (1179), Seattle, Washington, USA Oct 3, 2006 750 ml bottle.
Pours a warm orange with a beautiful off-white fluffy head and lovely bubbles forming at the surface. There is a fair bit of gelatinous matter floating about.
The aroma is all about marmalade. It’s fruitty citrus and some honey and a bit of peach; there’s a milder spicy yeast aroma running throuh as well, light sour notes; throgh the middle and into the early finish I get a crisp bitterness as well, though not as strong as some of more hopped-up Belgian offerings. The moutfeel is pleasant but not particularly full given the 9% (I would have put this one at more like 7.5); in some ways the same could be said of the flavor. It’s certainly a very nice beer and one that I’d be eager to try on tap -- but I don’t think this competes with the best of the des Rocs line. Dedollewaitor (3625), Odense, Denmark Sep 23, 2006 Hazy amber (golden orange) with a fine white head. Aroma and taste of yeast (malts) spice and fruits (citrus/oranges). Little sweetness. Smooth & filling texture. Medium live carbonation. Great lasting and pleasant finish. Abbaye de rocs is truly amazing. Great
