bu11zeye (5430), Frisco, Texas, USA Oct 18, 2005 Updated: Oct 9, 2007(750ml bottle) Pours a lightly cloudy deep copper body with a large off-white head. Aroma of old musty books, wet leaves, caramel, cheese, and unidentifiable fruit. Flavor of spicy yeast and earthiness. jonsiii (157), Fredericia, Denmark Sep 29, 2005 #5@basen. Abbaye Des Rocs rocks. Dark golden colour with a long lasting head. Aromas of fruits, caramel and alcohol. A heavy beer which still hides the alcohol very well. Veer (355), Landskrona, Sweden Sep 28, 2005 Updated: Nov 27, 2006750 ml bottle in Chimay glass.
Warmly yellow/brown/orange, a bit cloudy, white foam white a yellow tone.
Smells of fruit, apples, alcohol, green raisins, sourish, yeast, a certain spiciness, vanilla buns, some hops.
It is sweet to the taste, sourish, just some bitterness.
Sparkling and rich mouthfeel. Pastrylike. CampbellWilson (533), Scotland Sep 18, 2005 Bottle from Beers of Europe. Room temp. Another gusher, but no gloop. Dark orange. Aroma of vanilla, honey, spice, orange, yeast. Firm mouthfeel, a little sweet, but good finish. Nice one. ClarkVV (3578), Allston, Massachusetts, USA Sep 2, 2005 Old-looking 750mL bottle from Egajdzis shared with myself and Eyedrinkale on 8/27/2005. The most difficult cork I have ever removed, I’m surprised no one/nothing was damaged in its removal. Pours a lovely, fully hazy, banana yellow, with a moderate amount of white head, not that long retained, seemingly rather old and tired, as it dosent leave much lacing and there is only sparse bubbling from the liquid. Aroma, however, IMHO, was still wonderful. Vanilla, banana, lots of honey and thick, chewy yeast. A bit of funk to it, just light farmy character, bacteria if you will. A touch of oranges and a decent strength to it overall. Flavor is spicy (pepper, orange peel, lemons, clove), but lets the palate down gently in a soft field of honey and creamy sugariness. Nice sharp acidity grows on the end though, light oxidation, with a tired yeast, a bit dull, but still tastey. Smooth, coating body is medium-full to full, but yet it is not heavy or syrupy in the least, thanks to some miniscule carbonation remaining. White sugary dough, light bananas and cloves. A real treat, I loved this stuff. I wish it was easier to find AdR’s Blonde beers here in the states. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA Aug 27, 2005 Gold color with a small white head. Aroma mostly honey and white pepper. Taste is sweet and dry, caramel and toffee, yeasty and honey. Smooth and lively mouthfeel. wunderbier (1264), Tampere, Finland Aug 17, 2005 Hazy amber hue with a tight, creamy, white head. Ginger, toffee, brown sugar, and cinnamon are the main aromas I pick up. Some fruit is hidden beneath. Moderately sweet and acidic throughout with just a hint of bitterness in the end. Honestly, it tastes like a ginger snap to me. Medium-full body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. Miguel (1181), Saint-Ours, Quebec, Canada Aug 10, 2005 Robe rousse-ambrée voilée surmontée d’une bonne mousse blanche. Arômes de caramel. Saveurs de bière infectée. Infecte, vraiment.
