Sully (1367), Woolloomooloo, New South Wales, Australia Jul 12, 2004 A good relative of the other AdR. This has a lovely amber colour when poured and billowy head which lasts well and forms a great lacing in the glass. The nose is one of those typical complex wsinter fruit baskets with plums and pears and dried fruit in muscatel and dried apricot. Like a lot of its stable the bitterness is noted but not assertive and as usual forms a fine partnership with the underlying body of the beer. for the ABV however, I either am getting used to such power or am drinkiong a finely balanced beer, because I don’t really detect the hit carried by a beer of 9%. The back palate finishes well in a dryness that is reminiscint of a peppery shiraz. BBB63 (4199), La Porte, Indiana, USA Jul 11, 2004 Bottle: Sunset amber hue with floaties, fizzy but lasting head, minimal lace. The aroma has notes of currents, apple, pear, caramelized sugar, aromatic hops, flowers, pepper, and phenols. The taste has an initial heavy candi sweetness with a fruity overtone. Undertones of spices, rosebud, honeycomb, brandy, and oak. Mild bitterness and tangy citric finish. The feel is very lively, sharp and crisp. Alcohol induced warming on the finish. Complex yet not fully integreted, it has lots of potential but I don’t think it will age well. Still worth a try, quaffable indeed. JCW (1262), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Jun 4, 2004 Very good beer, Thanks Per! Gold color, with a forthy white head, translusent. Aroma of light belgium candi sugar, yeast and spice(like pepper). Flavor is sweet and slightly bitter. Tangy mouth feel. Peppery dry finish. mrkimchee (1414), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 29, 2004 deep cloudy orangy brown, big white head. thick lokking, almost gelatinous. complex sweet aroma of toffee, maple syrup, vanilaa, roasted aplles and earth. flavour holds dried fruit(prune?), buter malt, toffee and a little balancing tartness in the warming finish. very nice. Gusler (2655), Tucson, Arizona, USA May 24, 2004 The beer as it resides in the glass after departing the 33cl brown bottle is a beclouded deep orange to almost brown, the head is moderate in size, semi-creamy in texture and the color an off white, the lace forms a velum like sheet to conceal the glass. The nose has a slight yeast aroma, over ripe plums comes to mind, with malt sweetness at the back with the start sweet and a nice malted grain presence, the top id middling in its feel to the palate. Finish is delectable in its acidity, the hops pleasing and spicy in their bite with the aftertaste quite dry, nice touch of warming in the tummy from the 9 percent ABV. IPFreely (1470), Lewiston, New York, USA May 20, 2004 Nice brownish amber color, big firm head. Sweet, fruity aroma, some spice as well. Caramel comes through in the flavor a bit more, fruity again, some malt. Quite smooth. Quite nice. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 16, 2004 Dark amber body with a good size head. Lots of sweet malt and caramel or toffee with some dark fruits making cameos. Thanks for sharing Kimchee, even if you are going to call me an idiot for liking it more than the others ;) mutant (854), Melbourne, Australia Apr 18, 2004 Cloudy tan body but contains many constantly circulating mega floaties. Huge ultra persistent head. The floaties let this down in appearance. Malty yeasty aroma which translates to the flavour which reminds me of vegemite with added spices. There is some alcohol in the finish. I love vegemite so I really like this but I can see why others would not. MMM.. toast and Montagnarde for breakfast.
