JMFG (1514), Florida, USA Jun 14, 2008 Bottle. Darkish amber color, moderate light white head, typical de Rocs egg drop soup appearance. Sweet aroma, Belgian yeast, malts, a light perfumey note is also present. Taste is amply sweet, but stays short of cloying. Straightforward Belgian amber with a nice sour twang on the back end. Very well done. bhensonb (4189), Woodland, California, USA May 28, 2008 Bottle at Cambrinus in Brugge. Rich dark aroma that is near vinous. Amber color with a fine beige head. Medium body with smooth, creamy carbonation. Flavor is a cross between ripe peach and raisin. Nice bitterness to balance. Alcohol is wholly hidden. Just excellent. Doppelganger (1353), Dry County, Arkansas, USA May 1, 2008 Bottle, from Noel Cuveliers, Abele. Hazy, slightly chunky orange (even after a fairly careful pour), tan head. Spicy ginger cake aroma, cinnamon, dark sugar warmth, a touch of butter. Rich dark flavor, sweet and warming with a little chocolate bourbon note, dry finish. Lovely well-crafted beer. Brouwser (119), gatineau, Quebec, Canada Apr 22, 2008 De mémoire.
ChristianScheffel (4431), Odense, Denmark Apr 19, 2008 Hazy orange beer filled with floating flakes. Small white head. Aroma filled with exotic fruits, orange and passionfruit among them. Dry and fruity with a candy finish. BMan1113VR (2758), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA Apr 15, 2008 Pours with a small white ehad and paintball sized particles (big turnoff) . . . particles are everywhere in the golden body. Aroma of champagne, raspberry and sugar. Yeasty-sweet belgian taste. Fizzy mouthfeel with yeasty aftertaste. ilovedarkbeer (1326), Dallas, Texas, USA Apr 15, 2008 Pours a golden orange color with tons of sediment to the point of being gross. I guess that is Abbaye des Rocs for you... Nose is weak, sugar and dark fruit with some spice a bit of malt. Taste is watery and of belgian sugar with a short finish and some spice. Nothing exciting. PorterPounder (3133), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Apr 13, 2008 Orlando, Fl. - Knightly Spirits, 750 ml capped bottle. Pours a dark murky orange, quickly fading off-white head, with an overabundance of floaties - you can actually chew them - a tad disconcerting. Molasses, dates, and raisins in the aroma, a hint of chocolate. Flavor is decidedly sweet and malty. Hints of prunes, dates and molasses. Chocolate and toffee permeate the back end, a touch of maple syrup and apricots finishes it off. Thickish mouthfeel, but it loses a bit of its luster when you have to chew your way through the floaties. Overall decent, just a bit too sweet.
