smith4498 (825), Miami, Florida, USA Feb 15, 2008 Poured a hazy copper color with an off white head. Aromas of malt, yeast, almond and caramel. Moderate sweet flavor of carmelised sugar and malt with some yeast. Medium body with meduim carbonation and a smooth creamy mouthfeel. Not their best but still very good. Defreni (994), Frederiksberg, Denmark Feb 14, 2008 Flaske. Lækker øl. redgold07 (308), Irving, Texas, USA Feb 12, 2008 An immediate aroma of malt, alcohol, and fruit. Pours an amber color with a good-sized bubbly, white head. Flavor is complex... fruit, alcohol, sugary malts (caramel), some spice, and a slight bitterness. Very enjoyable.
1 pt. 9.4 oz. bottle. pivnizub (4951), Bochum, Porúří, Germany Feb 11, 2008 Bottle: Hazy, deep orangey coloured, some floaties visible, smaller off-white, persistent foamy layer; distinctive almondy-nutty aromas, backed by some caramel and a shy sourish fruitiness; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, medium to full bodied, creamy MF; solid almondy-bitter finish with an increasing bitterness in the aftertaste. Can’t help, but this reminds me a bit of a diluted cough-syrup.............. SudsMcDuff (1691), was CapeTown,SA-now Houston, Texas, USA Feb 10, 2008 giggity... has a wonderful fruity dust yeast smell ... low foam, in the glass it looks of thin maple syrup with a head .. .. no alcohol detected, is very delicious.. . . "....face!" .... if you are in the mood for an mellow easy drinking belgian strong...<--- yespr (11645), Copenhagen O, Denmark Feb 4, 2008 33 cL bottle, trade with DeDollewaitor. Pours clear orange to amber with lots of huge yeast sediments, not really an inviting look of a beer. Huge off-white to orange head. Light caramel and slight metallic aroma. Malty, slight metallic and vaguely pepperish flavour. Ends with a mild pepperish note. Interesting, but I’m not impressed :( Scauca (408), Lovere, Italy Jan 31, 2008 Deep clear amber with a disappearing thou huge head. Complex mix of sweet maltiness, des rocs yeast and a good balancing bitterness. Drinking it at less than 10° could be really dangerous. maltdog (509), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jan 25, 2008 I decant the murky orange fluid with a frenzy of fine bubbles, upon which floats a centimeter of eggshell lather as smooth as fondant. The seductive bouquet drips with lavish fruit and shy spice… immediate impression include kiwi, watermelon schnapps, vanilla-infused pipe tobacco, and lemon thyme, catmint, and lavender sachet scents. A moment’s contemplation evokes random hodgepodge fragrances: new leather shoes, dank basement, sliced heirloom tomatoes, and a tenuous twang of horse urine. Tasting delivers an extravagant feast; dominant traits of caramel, papaya, star anise, and peppery ethanol glow are augmented by a veritable tropical circus… tangelo and ugli fruit, cherry, jasmine, vanilla, marzipan, and dense tupelo honey. Untempered by acid or spice, the beer teeters on the brink of smothering sweetness. The spicy, sharp, and bitter qualities so dramatized in the description remain obstinately mute, their absence filled instead by candied fruit and gummi candy. A hint of “green” noble hop flavor flits in the scenery. Finishing on a sweet iced tea with lemon and cardamom note, the elixir relaxes with a mellow mango aftertaste. The palate proves juicy and lightly syrupy, and soft with feathery carbonation; the effect is not unlike breathing a thick country fog. Unfortunately, as effervescence wanes, so does the exotic intensity, and the ale reverts to a sugary, lemony, corky torpor. Although ultimately declawed and “girly”, des Rocs amber still pleases with joyride fun and Disneyesque fanfare.
