Commercial Description:
This beer, robust in taste and strength (9%) is the tops for flavour. It has a fruity and spicy bouquet, it has a stark taste, between a sharp bitterness and a caramelised flavour. It has no sugar, and this pure malt beer oscillates between various tendencies which all round off the bitterness. It has a peppery taste at the back of the mouth and a sharpness on the tongue. It is active in the mouth and lets each flavour express itself individually. It is very active in the glass which gives it a full, lasting, head. It has a long conclusion and puts emphasis on an ever present bitterness but less supported by the caramel. The final impression is one of gingerbread without sugar.

8 May 2004 - Intense spicy hop fruit malt aroma. Cloudy light brown colour. Sweet hoppy apricot malt flavour. Medium body and lingering hop taste.

Bottle. Copper colored beer with huge, creamy head with excellent retention. Wonderful aroma of chewinggum and apples.Sweet, malty, light flavor with perfumy notes and complex, almost artificial flavor. It is heavily carbonated. An elegant and complex beer, that is almost too much goodness at once.

Big, gassy head and cloudy old-gold colour. The aroma was yeasty and citric, possibly lemon curd, but there were other notes too: once I caught something vegetal. Tomatoes or marrow, perhaps. The flavour was orange marmalade: sweet with a mid-bitter finish. Slightly too much fizz for me. A very good beer from l’Abbaye des Rocs, though I preferred their Altitude.

The aroma was honey with flourals and alround outstandingness. Taste is a bit unbalanced and carbonation could have been less.

Bottle (330ml). Via trade with mouton_noire. Hazy amber-gold with a huge lasting fluffy white head, sticky lace. Sweet yeast and spice aroma, candyish malt, dry, sweet fruitiness and a bit peppery - nice. Taste - again, spicy, peppery, yeasty and plenty of sweet malt, it’s somewhat reminiscent of a good gold shred marmalade - enough alcohol and light floral hop bitterness to keep it balanced. Thick syrupy yet oddly somewhat watery body, very lively and alcoholic mouthfeel - quite a pleasing palate sensation. Very nice Belgian strong. Merci, Marie-C!!

Bottle. Darkish amber color, moderate light white head, typical de Rocs egg drop soup appearance. Sweet aroma, Belgian yeast, malts, a light perfumey note is also present. Taste is amply sweet, but stays short of cloying. Straightforward Belgian amber with a nice sour twang on the back end. Very well done.
