COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer, robust in taste and strength (9%) is the tops for flavour. It has a fruity and spicy bouquet, it has a stark taste, between a sharp bitterness and a caramelised flavour. It has no sugar, and this pure malt beer oscillates between various tendencies which all round off the bitterness. It has a peppery taste at the back of the mouth and a sharpness on the tongue. It is active in the mouth and lets each flavour express itself individually. It is very active in the glass which gives it a full, lasting, head. It has a long conclusion and puts emphasis on an ever present bitterness but less supported by the caramel. The final impression is one of gingerbread without sugar.

Light sweetness and roast aromas. Copper in color with almost no head. Caramalty and sweet with a bit of spice undertone. A descent amber but not my favorite from this great brewery.

33cl bottle. Dark copper colour with a lot of floating sediments (even served with care) and a thin off-white lacing. Liquorice, caramel and spicy aroma. Average to soft carbonation and medium body. Taste is slightly more sweet than bitter with a long sweet caramelized finish. Overall, a nice brew but too sweet for me.

2014/08/31 - Pours a hazy amber-brown colour with a thick, foamy, off white head that quickly dissipates and leaves minimal lacing. Lots of suspended particulate present. Aroma is yeast, apples, plumbs, caramel, sweet liquor and gingerbread. Taste follows nose; apples, plumb, sweet caramel, yeast, mild gingerbread and sweet liquor. Body is full with smooth carbonation and a sweet and warming boozy finish. Not too shabby, but nothing spectacular. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Alengrin (1715) - BELGIUM - AUG 27, 2014
Belgian-style barley wine since 1986 with a deep amber colour, hazy with often quite large protein flakes, off-white, thinnish head. Very yeasty character, spicy too (apparently dandelions are used in it, adding bitterness), caramelly malt base, fruity, citrus, warming alcohol in the finish. Lots of personality in this one, I like it a lot.

330ml bottle from the LCBO in Peterborough, Ontario. Amber/brown in colour with a thin white head, good lacing. The aroma is of caramel, light orange citrus, some yeast. The flavour is moderately sweet, lots of caramel, some pepper, fruit. Medium body, high carbonation. Finishes long and quite sweet.

Bottle chilled slightly before a pour into a tulip. Yeasty, bready aroma. Head disappears very quickly to leave a thin top. Lots of yeast into glass, so the appearance is an amber full of chunks! Taste is sweet and malty, thin palate. Not very good at all.

Flaske 330ml fra Vinmonopolet, Bestillingsutvalget. Her var det litt gushing på gang! Mørk aprikosfarget. Nesten ikke skum. Uklar. Aroma av mørke plommer. Smaken er søt frukt. God balanse. Holder seg søt. (En plass må jo alkoholen være). Partikler i siste kvelling. Mye sedimenter igjen på flaska.

Pours a cloudy dirty brown with a small off white top. Aroma is caramel and earthy malts. Taste is caramel malts with belgian yeast and sweet gingerbread.

Bottle at the brewery in Montignies-sur-Roc
Dull brown-amber body with a patchy off-white head.
Banana and browned apple estery-heavy aroma with trace of brown sugar.
Candy sugar, herbal hops and peppery yeast phenols develop.
Calcium minerality with faint lactic yeast off-notes.
Strongly sweet, medium-full body, relatively low bitterness and acidity.
So incredibly sweet and sugary that I have to stop after two sips.

Dark ruby colour, huge beige head. Aroma of candy sugar, raisins, dark fruits. Taste is light to medium sweet, slightly sour. Very well balanced. Medium body, oily to creamy texture, average carbonation.

33cl bottle served in a De Dolle glass. Pours a cloudy amber colour with a slightly off white head which last quite well. Aroma is dusty spices with the taste being more of the same. Alcohol is reasonably present with a warming glow. Quite a flavourful and characterful Belgian. More of a winter warmer than the style would suggest.
