3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Light sweetness and roast aromas. Copper in color with almost no head. Caramalty and sweet with a bit of spice undertone. A descent amber but not my favorite from this great brewery.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A wonderful sour funk and apricot on the nose.
This brews main character leans into dark fruit and molassis and candied suger but is well balanced with a wonderful fresh ginger and a lovely sour that finishes dry with mild spices. Not as sweet some some other in the style.
Adding the yeast really mellows out the ginger and the sour notes and brings the spices forward. Perhaps this is also a result of the beer warming as well but these changes really seemed to come about when
I added the yeast to the glass.
Wonderful lacing, beautiful foggy dark golden brown.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
330ml bottle from Vinmonopolet. Medium off-white head which fades quickly. Hazy orange/light amber body. Sharp on the nose. Aroma of caramel malt, soy sauce and bread. Sweet tongue, really pleasing. The sense of alcohol is present, but not overwhelming.

Awful branding, but a damn tasty, aromatic beer. Would highly recommend on a Friday afternoon such as this.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
330 mL bottle. (Says 7.5%.) Unappealing hazy brown. Medium beige head. Nice lacing. Mild spicy, yeasty, earthy aroma. Maybe a bit of dried fruit as well. Burnt brown sugar sweetness in the flavour, joined by candy, dates, yeast, and spice. A little sweet, but not unappealing.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Copper amber body and small creamy head. Malty backbone, Vienna malt like, biscuity, developed yeast, caramel backup yet never too sweet to my pleasant surprise. Slightly high in alcohol, but it makes up in the body. Nice brew. Good Belgian, even when you’re not particularly into those beers any more. (75cl bottle shared with Darren on brew day, from Cave Gambrinus)

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: FEB 23, 2014
330ml bottle as “Montagnarde Ambree” bought at Belgian Beer International in Tsuen Wan.
Preparation: rested from the fridge for 10 minutes, then popped at around 12°C onto the Chimay chalice.
Looks: Cloudy hazy honey amber colour with traces of scrappy yeast sediments; One finger head with light beige foam which lasted for 3 minutes; Very good sticky lacing with very small and bubbly carbonation.
Aroma: fragrant honey, banana, vanilla, strong caramel, light pineapple, raisins, assorted light dark fruits, malt, fairly light alcohol and Bel yeast.
Taste: nice sweet malt, with gingerbread, cookies, spices, light rum raisins, sweet caramel, very light alcohol, light Bel yheast, plus shades of lemon and grassy hops.
Body: Mid to light body, thin but slick palate.
Mouth Feel: body is somewhat thinner than most BSAs. Decent maltyness. The low sweetness is not sugary and paired nicely with caramel and light rum raisins. Spicy gingerbread and cookies took the main stage, very notable. The 9% booze is perhaps the most well hidden among BSAs. Nice!
Hoppiness: None in arona, slight lemon and faint grassy taste. Notes of bitterness. Nice and low sweet-bitter finish.
After taste: Quite dry, very easy and neat to mouth.
Comments: Whereas Abbaye des Rocs Brune is rich and expressive, this one is rather thin, low key and reserved: moderate head, bare minimum sweetness, light and caramel aroma, gingerbread and spicy taste with well-managed booze. Recommanded for light-hearted enjoyment at any time of day, but this ain’t no top dog like the Brune.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Orange-amber colour, hazy, head doesn?t last. Indeed, nose and taste get caramel, ginger(bread) and pepper but I also taste some sweet fruits, honey, clove, wood, even a little smoke and a nicely sour bitterness. Very well balanced, as expected from this brewer. Typical spiciness. Lively mouthfeel coming from the big carbonation, medium-thick body. I prefer the Brune but this is good...
