2.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
12oz Bottle poured lightly chilled into a widemouth glass.
Chunky beer with a burnt orange color and big head. Dissipates quickly. Aroma is typical of an Abbey, yeasty fruity. The taste at first is typical too, but gives way to a very unpleasant bitterness that just does not gel with the belgian style ale at all. Almost like its trying to be an IPA. Dunno if I had a bad bottle or what but this beer was simply not good, and not at all what I’ve come to expect out of Des Rocs. Very disappointing. Wouldn’t drink this again except maybe from a tap.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
The color was a golden blonde, hence the name. There was nice carbonation and a lot of sediment. The head was creamy, foamy, and off-white. The aroma was yeasty, grain, alcohol, and maybe some dry hops. The flavor was a little waxy and yeasty. The palate was thin/medium bodied and smooth. The palate finish was warm. This beer was not quite as good as I expected it to be.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled as "Brasserie Des Rocs Belgian Blonde Ale". This is a Tripel??? Almost seems like a wit or maybe a Dunkleweissen. Aroma is sweet, grainy (wheat, corn, malts), bananas, and spices. Flavor is sharp, very full and interesting. Begins very full and salty, malts dominate, though hops quickly counter the sweetness, accompanied by orange zest, bananas, lemon, and the grassiest finish ever. It’s seriously like having a mouth full of fresh grass. A very unusual tripel, but still a good beer.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Wow...surprised this one’s not rated more highly. Just noticed it’s a Triple; I tasted it as a Belgian Golden. Pours gold-brown with all the chunkiness I expected from an Abbaye des Rocs beer. I love that; it’s like it forces you to deal with its lack of filtration head-on. And we always appreciate more the things we’ve dealt with closely. Pretty standard stuff in the aroma: spices, a touch of hops, and some sweet banana bread-ish notes. The difference lies in the des Rocs yeast, which deigns to reveal itself after a couple whiffs. It’s more musty than other strains, I think, and it gets along better with spice. The flavors follow the aroma closely, though the hops--floral and wonderful--are more prominent. This is a good thing, as the light fruit and mustiness play well with the suitable Belgian hop finish. May not stand up well within the style, but an excellent beer for its own purposes.

Bottled. Hazy light brown with a minor white head. The aroma is bitter and damp and the flavour consists of yeast, and alcohol. It’s watery and has no after taste,

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Sweetish malty grapefruity aroma. Golden orange hue with frothy white head and very, very chunky. Felt a thud in my glass while pouring. Smooth and malty. Slight sour citrus flavor. Well balanced and easy to drink. Alchohol is not noticable. Good carbonation. Good overall.
