Borresteijn (1351), Amsterdam, Netherlands Feb 1, 2009 33cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Dark reddish amber brown colour, off-white head. Big ugly floaties after the second pour. Sweet aroma of christmas cake, caramel, spice, fruits, cognac, very complex and interesting. Flavour is sweet, caramel and malts, fruits and christmas spices, but not nearly as complex as the nose. Lots of carbonation, but not aggressive. Medium to fullbodied. A very nice tasting beer. Good stuff. finol (475), Nacka (Stockholm), Sweden Jan 25, 2009 750 ml bottle from Systembolaget.
Pours brown-red. Fruity fresh aroma.
Complex taste, vinous, fruit and spice. I think it could have had a little bit bigger body. hirigalzkar (550), Stockholm, Sweden Jan 24, 2009 Updated: Jan 25, 2009Bottle. Red-brown colour. Big head. Fruity (sour apple) smell. Sweet complex taste. Chocolate, wine, fruit, spices. Well balanced. Little too much carbonation. Eructoblaster (1477), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Jan 18, 2009 Bottle - 330ml. Pours a dark brown body with low carbonation and a fair beige creamy head. Aroma carries brown sugar, plummy and yeasty hints. Taste is well balanced and hides the alcohol pretty well. Sweet and fruity notes and mild texture. Ends with a decent bittersweet, warming finish. Good winter warmer. Bière a faire vieillir. Pyrozoid (352), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Jan 10, 2009 Bouteille d 33 cl. Dégusté avec french tickler et Agaguk. Biere de couler brune avec un moyen collet non collant. Odeur de sucre, bananes et un peu de pommes. Gout de sucre brun, oranges et fruits. Bonne carbonation. HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Jan 8, 2009 Updated: Jan 18, 2009Bottle (750ml) My bottle shared with blankboy, garthicus, GregClow and tupalev - via trade with glouglouburp. 2007 vintage. Cloudy brown-amber with a large lasting fluffy off-white head and plenty of floaties - lovely lacing: yep, that’s des Rocs all right. Lush dry yeast aroma, sweet spice, solid caramel malt - very sweet and seasonal. The taste follows, seems a little creamy-lactic, even a tad minty - whatever, it’s yummy. Soft mouthfeel, sugary, lightly carbonated, mostly just sweet/spicy with a moderate amount of warming alcohol - so smooth, really hit the spot.
