33 cl. bottle sampled @ Kulminator. Very dark brown, almost blackish, slight ruby hue, creamy & very solid slightly tanned head. Getting some slight, nice oxidation in the nose, strong spices, sweet liquorish, slightly earthy, very thick juicy prunes, caramel, sticky malts,… Taste is candy, sticky malts, liquorish, thick spices, prune jam, raisins, caramel, slightly vinous earthly, caramel, slight bitter herbs in the back, candy sugar, touch bread, warming,… Slightly sticky full body. Very enjoyable, distinct enough, nice brew, it does seem whilst admirable no Abbaye des Rocs beer seems to rise quite to the impressive heights of their Brune.

If you want to smell & taste liquorice, caramel, cardemom, this is your beer. Annoying mouthfeel, agressive bubbles at the front, sour effect (infection?) in the back. Gusher & stays gushing. Large chunks of yeast. Alcohol warmth. Price/quality ratio: below par. BBD: 27/10/2013

750 ml bottle. L121115341. BB 10/05/2014. Courtesy of Brandman.
Hazy brown colour with a small light tan head. The aroma is mild Belgian yeast, some maltiness and caramel sweetness. The flavour is quite pleasant. Some hops, caramel sweetness, sweet bread, malt, mild alcohol and some chocolate notes in the flavour. Smooth. 9% is very well hidden.

Colour: Brown with a beige head. Nose: Spicy, dried fruit, hints of Ruby port. Herbs, slight idea of roasted malt aromas. Underlying sweetness (bubblegum-esque...?). Head diminishes quickly. Flavours: Mellow, yeast, raisins, apricot, wine-like fruitiness. Notes of chocolate and nuts (almond, chestnut). Finish: Long, intense and warming. Verdict: Very nice christmas beer. Certainly worth its reputation.

bottle shared by tom10101, thanks! near 5 year-old bottle. pours cloudy dark brown with a nice beige head, good retention and lacing. many particles floating everywhere. tons of raisins, red port, spices - maybe more from yeast than added, dark molasses. boozy. soft carbonation, full body - cloying sugars, grassy-spicy finish. very complex brew but cloying brew. still.. an enjoyable sipper.

Bottle (330 ml). From SlovakSniper, thanks! Small gusher. Clear amber with a medium fully lasting beige head and good lacing. Aroma of intense raisins, caramel, malt, Belgian yeast, candi sugar and spices. Taste is moderately sweet with tons of raisins, caramel, malt, candi sugar and spices. Medium body. Low to moderate carbonation. The spices profile isn’t really different from other beer from Abbaye des Rocs that I’ve tried despite being a Christmas beer. Really complex and raisins forward. Not easily drinkable (cloying sweetness).
