[vintage 2006]
Pours muddy dark brown with a fine, creamy off-white head. Diminishes quickly to a film at one side of my glass. Floaties? yeah, of course, it’s abbaye de rocs. Aroma is wonderful, sweet, lots of plums, raisins, rye bread, slight spiciness. Low carbonation, very creamy mouthfeel. Flavour has yeast, sweet maltiness, some raisin character and a definite viniousness. Overall, a very complex beer and a wonderful experience, drinking this in the searing heat of the Danish pre-summer :o) Rciesla (712), Brick City, New Jersey, USA May 28, 2008 Bottle. Pours a cloudy amber brown with a 3 finger tan head. Aroma and flavor is sweet malt, chocolate, clove and spices, pepper yeast, and some hoppiness in the flavor. DruncanVeasey (1612), Burbage, Leicestershire, England May 19, 2008 OK, so it’s not quite Xmas yet strictly speaking, but my Belgian stash is running low. Gushes uncontrollably all over the worktop an almost stouty mahogany with ruby flashes and a dissipating beige head. Nose heavy with yeast, raisiny fruit, orange liqueur, liquorice. Fat and heady with festive dark fruit, liquorice, plum and a fair amount of roasty bitterness to finish. Bittersweet with caramel and yeast extract. Marmite on wholemeal. Pretty standard dark yeasty ale with nothing that really sets it apart. Tasty, smooth, Twiglety, a bit dull... mabel (1583), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 27, 2008 [1131-20080228] Tap @ Delirium Cafe (Brussels, BE). Aroma of sauteed mushrooms with a bit of malty charred wood notes. Clear, dark dark red brown body with a medium-lasting foamy off-white head. Sweet mushroom malt continues in flavour with a sweet aftertaste. Medium body. Nice balance, fairly mild.
